1966 VW Split Screen Camper Van

One of the best Split Screens I have ever seen and currently on the market I find it hard to know where to begin with describing this van.

 Restoration & Bodywork

The enormous task of restoring the van was completed between 2009 – 2011 by renowned specialists ‘50-67' in Cornwall. The process involved stripping the van back to bare metal and replacing every single rotten panel on the van at the time. As you can imagine the van is now 100% thick solid metal and straighter than 99% of the vans on the market today.

 There wouldn't be enough space to list all of the bodywork that has been completed but some of the more major items include.

     Entire Cargo Floor Replaced

·               Outriggers Replaced with new.

·               Sills Replaced.

·              All Four Wheel Arches Replaced (Gaps Perfected and equal all round)

·               Battery Tray & Rear Corner Replaced

·               Cargo Doors Repaired Extensively

·               Cab Doors Repaired and put straight

·               Cab Floor Replaced

·               Roof Straightened and perfected

·               Corner Pillars replaced

·               Entire Front Panel Replaced

·               All Belly Pans Replaced

·               A Pillars Repaired

·               B Pillars Repaired

·               New Dashboard fitted

No mountains of filler required hiding 50 years of bruised bodywork. The van has undergone a mammoth exercise of which very few people have the patience. time. money and passion to complete.

 Note that 50-67 are the best of the best when it comes to VW restorations and their welding is nothing short of exceptional to say the least.

 Paintwork

After the bodywork was finally completed on the van it was re-sprayed in Maroon Red / VW Pastel White to a very straight and high standard.

 The fibreglass pop-top has also been painted in VW Pastel White and is in very good condition.

 Mechanical

·           1600cc Single Port Engine.

·           Standard 4-Speed Transmission.

 Engine runs very smoothly and starts first time every time. Extremely reliable and never lets you down. Very fuel efficient returning 30MPG+ on motorways.

 The engine has been religiously serviced and maintained and has just been freshly serviced this week ready for the summer.

 Lowered to Stage 1 to sit at what most believe to be the optimum ride height for these giving that beautiful look whilst still retaining the right to tackle steep driveways. speed bumps etc.

·           New rear brake cylinders and master cylinder - £400

·           Original Refurbished Steering Box with all new fittings supplied by Alan Schoffield – £1250

·           New Cooling fan and manifold rubbers – £250

·           New Starter Motor - £200

·           Stainless Steel Exhaust System - £500

Every necessary mechanical part has been replaced/refurbished as necessary.

Interior

Extremely sought after original Canterbury Pitt Interior re-fitted after the restoration was completed in 2011. These Interiors can fetch £3000-4000 and are irreplaceable in terms of originality and authenticity.

All Woodwork is in very good condition throughout and has a lovely aged grain with 50 years of patina and inimitability. The interior is 100% Complete and includes;

·      Hinged fold out sink with pump tap

·       Original folding table

·       Draws and storage holes in rear

·      Sliding cubby hole behind rear seat

·       Original Twin-Hob Gas Cooker and storage cupboard underneath mounted to the left cargo door.

·      All Cushions custom made to fit and covered in deep red vinyl with pastel white piping to match the vans paintwork. All brand new in unmarked condition.

·      New Headlining

Table folds out to create a downstairs bed. which will sleep two. Further sleeping upstairs.

Pop-top & Bunk Beds

Original Pop-top is in very good condition and easy to erect in seconds. New Lightweight canvas fitted in retro red and white stripes matching the rest of the vans period styling.

At present the van has one bunk bed fitted in the top but two more pole frames are included to sleep another at the same time if required. This is very simple to set up and can be dismantled in seconds. The second bed can be mounted above the first one on the other side giving access room to both. All bed poles are new and painted in silver.

 Electrical

·      100 Amp Leisure Battery with split charge relay system

·      Sony High Performance Head unit running two rear mounted Speakers.
