1964 MGB ROADSTER Mk I. CHROME WIRES . OVERDRIVE.  “PULL HANDLES”. NEW MOT. TAXED

Major mechanical restoration in 2007 including replacement 5 bearing engine with unleaded head . rebuilt gearbox and oil cooler fitted. New MOT and alternator conversion with twin 6v batteries. This MGB is a lovely mechanically upgraded example of what some say is the “Original and Best” Model.

This Abingdon built MGB  roadster was first registered in June 1964 and still carries the original number plate (AGO 392B). Specification included wire wheels and overdrive on 3rd & 4th gears and finished in “Tartan Red” with black interior and red piping .  As can be seen from the photographs. bodywork  and interior are in good condition and she is as clean underneath as on top.

In 2007. a replacement 5 bearing crank engine (# RS 88844) with unleaded head was fitted by a Somerset garage (HF Veale & Sons. Broadway Garage . Radstock). The original warranty certificate for this engine is provided with the car.

Work also involved replacement twin SU carbs. unleaded head and valve guides. new radiator. fitting an oil cooler (see pictures). exhaust.  and a rebuilt gearbox (spare donor gearbox included with the car).  Other work since then has included a recent new hood  and new boot carpeting/trim.  two 6 volt batteries and brake  pads/ linings/cylinders etc .

The car has had only limited use since then. and was carefully stored for the last couple of years . She has just been MOT'd  2 weeks ago. with only a few small electrical jobs required (headlamp unit. bulbs  and new indicator switch required) . As the dynamo was not charging . we decided to have an alternator fitted which provides much better output for modern motoring. This was done by a professional electrician. Note that the original system of twin 6 volt batteries in series fitted behind the seats has been retained and starting is excellent. The wire wheels and tyres on the road are all in good condition. as is a spare wire wheel and tyre. The only obvious repair needed is to the speedo and rev counter. which for some reason have not been working  for some time . Recorded mileage on the speedo is 23. 00 which is obviously not the total mileage since new.

The MG is an excellent drive with excellent performance and is now ready to be enjoyed for the summer season (hopefully with enough sun to put the hood down as we did yesterday when the photos were taken!!!). Being 50 years old she is classed as a historic vehicle with zero road tax payable.  She is very economical (25-35mpg on unleaded fuel) and comes with V5 . new MOT and road tax until March 2015.

Although I have done my best to describe the car. potential bidders are requested to come to inspect  before bidding. Please bear in mind that despite all the work that has been done. this is still a 50 year old vehicle. Viewing/test drive  can be arranged  by appointment . and  serious bidders should contact Steve on 07890948758(Mobile) or 01179674886(home). Location is in Kingswood. Bristol  is  convenient for access from the M4/M5 via the east Bristol A4174 ring road via  the A420 Bristol-Chippenham Road.

The vehicle is not advertised elsewhere and will be sold to the highest bidder once the reserve price has been met.  Usual Ebay rules apply and serious bidders only are invited to bid .  Please contact me if you do not have a record of over 10 purchases on Ebay.  All questions by email will be answered within 24 hours. Good luck if you bid and whoever wins will not be disappointed and get a very good car for the summer.
