1968 Jaguar S Type 3. 4 litre Manual Overdrive

Registration: HEY 50F

This car has been in storage for probably 20 years or so. I bought it in 2011 and have just taken it out of storage and decided to sell it as I do not have the time to get it back on the road again. The car is in very rust free condition and would probably not require any welding to obtain an MOT. though brakes. tyres etc would need attention. The car has it's original green log book and a V5 confirming the registration HEY 50F that must be worth £500 to £600 to someone? A quality storage cover comes with the car.

Also included is the original Jaguar Service policy given at first delivery. and two MOT's from the late 1970's. There is a tax disc on the windscreen from 1979. From what I can tell the car came off the road in 1979. and had some work done to the jacking points. and front members. there are receipts for these from Oldham and Crowther. In 1999 there are some receipts for cosmetic work such as re-chroming front grill. carpets. mascot etc. The current speedo reading is 6. 00 miles so I presume some time between 1979 and 2000 the car did around 26. 00 miles.

I got the car our of storage this month. put new plugs. leads. coil and points changed oil and filter and it runs. though the petrol is probably more than 10 years old! Picture shows the engine running with rev counter showing 700 rpm and oil pressure at around 25 to 30 psi. I rebuilt the clutch master cylinder and put in a new slave cylinder. so the car can be driven.

Brakes.

The brakes need a complete overhaul. calipers are seized and discs need replacing. the servo will most likely also need to be exchanged along with all brake lines and flexibles. The hand brake is working. I put in a new cable so that the car can be moved safely. however the hand brake calipers will need to be rebuilt as well.

Suspension

It is hard to asses the suspension and steering since the car is not drivable on the road. all appears to be in order. except the power steering has a small leak when manuevering and one of the rear hubs has excessive play. Tyres are not usable except for moving the car around the garage etc.

Engine

As above. the engine runs and has good oil pressure. the carburettors will need to be rebuilt and cleaned. although they work. the fuel is now very old. One fuel tank has some rust holes and is out of the car. it might be repaired. but probably should be replaced. The other tank seems fine and is full of (old) fuel. The exhaust front pipes need replacing. apart from that the boxes seem okay and the noise is not excessive from the engine.

Body

Body seems to be in excellent condition. and the underside seems to have no rust issues. only bad piece I can see is near the rear radius arm mounting which I have photographed. this looks like it may be due more to bad jacking than corrosion. Jacking points have all been replaced. Paint work looks good in the pictures. but has numerous small defects and some minor rust bubbles. white is the colour to show this! all doors. bonnet and boot fit very well. with just the drivers door needing some adjustment. The door window frames have all been rechromed at some time and look good. The rear bumper is particularly good. however it has been damaged by someone with a small diameter drill. perhaps using the bumper as a support piece to do some small drilling work?. these don't show in the pictures. The interior of the boot is in exceptional condition as shown in the pictures. A tool kit with a few bits missing and the original jack is also present.

Interior

The interior looks well and is serviceable. and has had new carpets at some time. The door cards have been replaced. and the originals are still with the car. The leather has been treated at some time. but not very well and could do with a proper clean and re colour. Seat foams could do to be replaced. Passenger's inertial reel does not work. One piece of wood trim is missing from one of the rear doors. All instruments. lights and switches appear to work. the overdrive can be heard  clicking when the lever is pressed.

Car is available for viewing. but please ring first. call 07804350463 car is auctioned to be sold with no reserve. On completion of auction a deposit of £250 is required via Paypal. with balance paid on or before collection. Car will have to be taken away with trailer and it would be best to have one with a winch.

I have tried to give as much useful info as possible. any questions. please e mail and I will endeavour to answer. Happy bidding
