In 1934. the PA was the latest in the line of MG Midgets. dating back to the 1928 M-Type. The PA. of which 2. 00 were built. replaced the J2. and while the two-seater version was similar in style to the J2. the wheelbase was longer and the body wider. The most significant improvement. however. was that the crankshaft main bearings were increased from two to three.

Although not the quickest vehicle at the time. an MG Roadster was an ideal British Police cruiser. the two-lane roads were narrow and often congested. so a nimble little car could play a useful part in a police fleet. Upon request. some of the Lancashire police vehicles were special equipped with forward-hinged doors for quick entry/exits.

As one of less than 20 units produced for the Lancashire force. chassis number PA1902 is believed to be one of the last MG PAs delivered to the police constabulary of Lancashire. England. This unique example wears a dual-toned blue paint scheme over complimenting blue upholstery having undergone a complete restoration several years ago to its current livery. Excellent bright work. painted wire wheels. Lucas 700 headlights and folding windscreen pair well to the black canvas weather equipment. The cockpit is complete with dual bucket seats. polished mechanicals and handsome woodwork with fine instrumentation housed within octagonal bezels. The Roadster was acquired by an American collector during the mid-2000's while working overseas. and later having the MG exported to the States. where it played a special role in his impressive British automobile and motorcycle collection throughout the following years.

This particular PA comes equipped with a rare contoured Brooklands windscreen. along with correct Lancashire (TJ9045) registration plates. Jaeger clock and instruments. handcrank. badges/bar. and University Motors Stratton House dash plaque. A now world recognized London MG dealer. former University Motors always added a little something to the MGs they sold. better wheels. extra instrumentation. or special ordered vehicles - adding this enamel dash plaque to distinguish their cars.

It has been confirmed the car is in excellent mechanical and driving condition. All lights. instruments. charging system. horn and electric windshield wipers are in top working order. A recent tune-up was performed. including a complete vehicle fluid flush. a restoration of the fuel tank. hoses. and radiator. rebuild of the carburetor. and new battery. The roadster performs just as well as it looks cosmetically. making a very capable tourer ready for continued enjoyment.

PA1902 is a lovely and special example of the historic P-series Midget which will certainly generate attention. especially among those who have a keen appreciation for vintage British automobiles given its fascinating past. We welcome a closer look at this interesting special use Roadster.

Included with the sale is a copy of the book MG's On Patrol by Andrea Green which recognizes PA1902 as one of the original police chassis. it also provides an in debt story of the UK Police cars and a registry.

Note: the cosmetic aspects of this PA are that of an older restoration “driver” and not a show car. it is ideal for continued use and enjoyment. Additionally during the restoration an MG/TC data plate was used but stamped with the correct PA chassis an engine numbers.
