Frame Off Built Roadster 454 V8 TH700R4 4-Speed

Year: 1933 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Yellow Mileage: 1295 Transmission type: 4 Speed Automatic Engine: 454 V8 Interior color: Tan Vehicle info

Before the first pro-touring build was ever conceived. there were street rods. Street rods are similar to hot rods and more so pro-tourers because they have undergone some type of modernization to either the engine. transmission. and/or interior. However a street rod. unlike a pro-touring build. isn't built specifically to push cornering limits or create massive horsepower numbers. Instead. a street rod is usually a 1948 or earlier vehicle that is built to be enjoyed. not just shown. Many street rods might contain a modern power plant. and upgraded suspension similar to a pro-tourer. but that's because these street rods are actually seeing time on the blacktop and are being built to provide a great ride and feature plenty of creature comforts. In short. a pro-tourer or a hot rod will more than likely be trailered to an event. while a street rod will actually drive to and from an event!

With that definition fresh in our minds let's take a look at a gorgeous example of a 1933 Ford Roadster that falls perfectly into that street rod category. To answer your first question. the body is a Fiberglass Gibbons body that is covered in a gorgeous shade of Ferrari Yellow and unlike some that try to pass as roadsters. correctly features no side glass. But this roadster is just more than an eye candy thanks to a massive power plant under the hood. But before we get too far. let's take a closer look at the body.

The vibrant yellow body is a beautiful blend of simplicity and class. It starts at the front where you'll find a tiny front bumper bar that has been painted in yellow and sits just below the start of the massive front fenders. The bright yellow is accented throughout the ride by hand painted pinstripping that adds just that small touch of flare. Above the small bumper you will find a small spider painted on the center of the nose just below the start of the signature look of the tall aluminum grille. Flanking the grille are two big LED lights that feature some pinstripping as well. The hood is a three-piece Rootlieb steel hood that sits just below a Duvall windshield. The roadster is equipped with a Carson style lift-off black top that ensures with either the top on or off the roadster looks incredible. Make your way down the sides of the car and past the suicide doors with shaved door handles to the back of the car and you'll find more pinstripping that sits at the base of the trunk lid. A chrome Ford V8 logo sits beside a painted spider web and spider. Finishing off the look are two rear tail lights that also have the green pinstripping highlighting them.

Pull the lever from under the dash and you'll reveal what is hidden under the hood. Powering the roadster is a 454ci Chevy big block V8. At the top of the engine you'll find a chrome air filter wearing 454 badging. The filter sits on a 4-barrel carburetor that shoves the air fuel mixture into the massive big block. The mixture travels through an aluminum intake and cylinder heads before providing combustion in the cylinders. From there. spent gasses travel out the dual exhausts that exit out just under the rear bumper to create an incredible sound. The engine is tucked away nicely within the engine bay and is dressed up enough to capture the eye of any stingy car show judge.

What separates the average street rod from the immaculate is how well they travel down the road. Glance under this roadster and you'll see how this '33 Ford achieves its incredible ride. At the front you'll see that the build team opted for a Mustang II independent front stainless suspension. As you make your way to the back you'll see that bolted to the Chevy big block is a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission that sends power to a Ford 9-inch rear axle with 3. 50 gears. Stopping power comes courtesy of 4-wheel disc brakes. In front of those brakes are 17" and 20" Billet Specialties dagger wheels that have been wrapped in Yokohama rubber.

Because this roadster is fully equipped to travel down the road it's extremely important that the interior be a place of comfort and convenience. and this '33 roadster doesn't disappoint. Pop open the suicide doors and you'll reveal a tan leather interior that is a great place to ride to and from car shows. In front of the two-way adjustable leather bench seat is an Ididit steering column with a color matched three-spoke steering wheel that sits in front of gorgeous. white VDO gauges. On the floor you will find like new carpet that is slightly darker than the rest of the tan interior. In the center of the floor is the vintage Lokar shifter boot that controls the 4-speed automatic. Behind the bench seat is a spacious trunk that wears the same dark carpet as the rest of the interior.

This '33 Ford roadster didn't just impress us; in 2009 it received the appropriately named 'Best Bitchin' award at the Columbus. Ohio Goodguys event. That same year it was also featured in the Goodguys gazette. A copy of this magazine is included in the sale of the '33 Ford.

The beauty of owning a street rod is you actually get the chance to enjoy the ride. This 1933 roadster impressed us from the moment that we laid eyes on it. Not only does it have an incredible look. but it backs it up with a potent drivetrain. and a sleek interior. This true roadster won't last long under our showroom lights. Don't miss your chance to add an award winning Street rod to your collection.
