The best thing about being a Camaro fan is: through five generations and 46 years of cars. GM has continuously provided us with a variety of purpose-built performance packages that normally wouldn't make it off the boardroom floor. And today. when it comes to high dollar classics. you simply can't go wrong with a numbers matching. first generation Z/28. Pedigreed. well-done small block cars continue to be some of the hottest selling metal on the market. And this documented. investment grade Z/28 has all the right ingredients to bring big value and even bigger appeal. For starters. it's an authentic British Green car which features a correct black interior. It also packs a numbers matching 302 that's sprinkled with a roster of correct components. AND it rows power through a correct Muncie 4-speed transmission. If you're in the market for a restoration-fresh collector car that you can enjoy and build equity in. this slick F1 demands your full attention!

To confirm the accuracy of this Chevy's restoration. I'll go ahead and break down both its VIN and cowl tag numbers.

VIN: 124378L332070

1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
37 = Coupe
8 = 1968 model year
L = Assembled at GM's facility in Van Nuys. California
332070 = Sequence number

COWL TAG:

02E = Assembled during the fifth week of February. 1968
T592 = Van Nuys body scheduling code
68 = 1968 model year
12437 = 1: Chevrolet. 2: Camaro. 4: Fixed digit. 37: Hardtop
LOS = Assembled at GM's facility in Van Nuys. California
30797 = Fisher body number
712 = Standard black interior that's equipped with bucket seats
ZZ = British Green exterior paint

Assembled during February of 1968 in Los Angeles. California. this awesome Camaro is the beneficiary of a recent. frame-off restoration that spared no expense to massage its rock-solid body into better-than-new condition. After that body was completely stripped. and a bit of high quality metalwork completed. its sculpted panels were prepped for a correct coat of GM's British Green urethane. Once that glossy basecoat dried. smooth Ermine White rally stripes were sealed under a durable clearcoat shine. And today. this top-notch pony car is a spectacular classic which combines the best aspects of Chevrolet performance with the gratuitous fun and old school style that only vintage American muscle can provide!

With its classic proportions and modernist panels. the first generation Camaro is an inherently attractive design. And with today's world class restoration techniques. it has become an excellent canvas for any skilled builder to create a seriously nice car. At the front of this clean F-Body. a bright silver grille centers a small Chevrolet emblem between simple parking lamps. bright halogen headlights. a mirror-like bumper and an option D80 chin spoiler. Above that grille. a correct Camaro hood leads the eye to like-new glass that's bordered by straight stainless trim. cleared by matte-finished wipers and reflected by a correct square mirror. At the sides of that hood. sculpted fenders combine with traditional chrome door handles. correct fender emblems and fresh stainless rocker trim to detail the car's deep green profile. And at the back of those fenders. an option D80 decklid spoiler complements chrome-trimmed tail lights. a body-matched fuel cap and a second. mirrored bumper.

Under the car's Kansas-flat hood you'll find an original 3914678 branded V8 which was cast on December (L) 13th (13) of 1967 (7). assembled in Flint. Michigan (V) on February (02) 15th (15) of 1968 as a Z/28-exclusive 302 (MO). and stamped with a correct 18L332070 partial VIN. Straight from the factory. Chevrolet's high performance SCCA Mustang slayer utilizes high flow. rectangular port heads. a forged steel crank. forged steel rods and forged aluminum pistons to twist stout 11 to 1 compression into more than 350 horsepower! At the top of the red hot small block. a chrome. open element air cleaner swirls air into a familiar Winter intake via a big 4-barrel carburetor. At the sides of that intake. authentic double hump heads prop fresh chrome valve covers above fully restored exhaust manifolds. And at the back of those heads. a mandatory points distributor shoots fire through correct Packard TV R Suppression wires. When fired. the infamous 302 snarls and barks like a real competition piece. Its ancillary components are top-notch in every way with fresh GM hoses. a refinished Delco Moraine brake booster and a reproduction Delco Energizer battery accompanying rare. factory-correct smog equipment. And an evenly sprayed combination of Chevy Orange engine skin and satin black fender framing is carefully interrupted by variety of fresh decals and correct chalk marks.

Back in 1968. the only transmission you could get with your Z/28 was a tough Muncie 4-speed; and that's exactly what lives behind this car's original small block. That quick-shifting gear slinger is backed by a fresh driveshaft. which is connected to a stout 12 bolt rear end. That first-rate drivetrain is held off the ground by a completely rebuilt. high performance suspension. which includes 4-piston. Corvette-style brakes. tuned front coils. correct multi-leaf rears and reproduction shocks. That suspension is dissected by a beefy Flowmaster exhaust system. which sounds monumentally better than the car's original. chambered pipes. That exhaust system is framed by clean floors and spotless paint. which perfectly highlight a new stainless fuel tank. fresh stainless lines and a roster of chassis components that still waive original paper tags. Those floors roll on 15 inch Rally wheels. which spin E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GTs around correct stainless center caps and dent-free trim rings. That chassis has. like the car's engine bay. been restored to excellent. road-ready condition. And while this Z/28 has. to our knowledge. never been shown. it would certainly fare well sitting in a field hovering above undercarriage mirrors.

The standard black interior hiding behind this car's small green doors illustrates the true. no frills intentions of Chevrolet's original Z/28. Its bucket seats were restored with new backs. new foam and reproduction covers that look and feel fantastic. In front of those seats. a wood-lined dash. which exhibits no signs of warping or peeling. hangs an optional tic toc tachometer above a functional Delco AM radio. At the base of that dash. a great looking factory console centers an optional 'four pack' gauge cluster in front of a chrome Hurst shifter. That seat. dash and console trifecta is completely framed by a tight headliner. fade-free carpet and standard door panels that are lined with bright stainless trim. In front of the driver. Chevrolet's classy Rosewood steering wheel spins satin spokes around a red. white and blue centerpiece. And behind the passengers. the car's solid trunk has been correctly restored with a new mat. a new jack. a full-size tire and fresh decklid decals.

The sale of this blue chip F-Body includes a vintage Camaro brochure. registration paperwork that dates back to 1985. and emissions test receipts that date back to 1992.

Early Z/28s are certainly rare. and "IMPRESSIVE" is one word that definitely describes this car. Given the crops of clones and fakes that popped up as the marque gained popularity. having a documented. correct example is now what separates the enthusiasts from the fans. If you want a pony car that'll draw a crowd for reasons other than bright paint and aftermarket badges. this investment grade F1 is exactly what you're looking for!
