E34 1989 BMW 535i Dinan Turbo

Up for auction is a rare and unique BMW 535i Dinan Turbo. She's a collector worthy sleeper saloon highway cruise missle! I'll attempt to be as honest as I can with all details. From what I've gathered this is 1 of 15.

From Delaware it was shipped to the Dinan shop in California and had an intercooled turbo. upgraded suspension. brakes. upgraded Dinan exhaust. Dinan 3 vdo gauge(oil temp. boost/vac. volt) panel. Dinan turbotronic computers. Dinan floor mats. safegaurd knock detector system all installed and was shipped back to DE. The wheels are Hartge Type A wrapped in Riken radials. The wheels were reconditioned. and the tires are less than 2. 00 miles old.

The car was given to a previous owner by his boss. After many years it went into a performance shop in DE for a leaking head gasket and leaking tranny. Once given the estimate the owner couldn't afford to repair it and sold it to the owner of the shop. The shop owner had the HG repaired complete with 3 angle valve job. rebuilt the tranny and stored it driving it on occasion. When the transmission was rebuilt (<2. 00 miles ago) the converter was loosened (3. 00 rpm stall) and a shift kit was installed.

In his care the engine had been completely gone over including new belts. upgrading the injectors and a new fuel pressure regulator was installed.

It's been stored in garage all its life. well maintained and it shows. It has always been adult owned and not boy raced.  It turns heads every time I drive it. It has had one repaint. There is nick or two in the rear bumper and two or three small dimples in the body. The base clear coat finish has zero cracks and is in excellent condition. There was an old cell phone mounted in the car and a couple small holes remain from the mounting bracket in the passenger foot well. That said this may be the cleanest of all of these on the road inside and out.

The turbo pushes ~12lbs of boost and pulls very hard with very little lag. From magazine articles she is between 330-405 hp. Even at 20+ she remains world class fast. With some work outs on the dyno the p/o thought it would run in the 12's. When that boost come on you better know where you are going with your eyes far down the road. For comparison sake she recently spanked a Mazda Speed 3 in a 1/8 mile jaunt from a red light. That isn't to say she isn't a good daily. drive her with a light foot and she's a kitten that gets decent fuel mileage.

Recent:

• A/C recharged
• New trunk struts
• New ignition switch
• New rear passenger door cable
• Oil change
• New battery

I have receipts for the trans work. HG work and the above but not much else. I was working with Dan at Dinan for their records but all he had were kit part numbers. He would have to dig through numerous boxes in their basement to get more.

It is what it is:

• Until warm the CEL will randomly come on with your foot off the gas as the air/fuel ratios battle it out between the main computer and turbo computers installed by Dinan. When speaking with Dinan about this it was said “it is what it is”. It's probably something small and could be fixed but after talking with Dan I wasn't too worried.

• The odometer was replaced at ~54k. There is a validation sticker on the door.

I recently drove the car on a 700 mile journey through the Green and Adirondack Mountains without flaw.

A new baby has changed priorities and I no longer drive it. It's a wonderful car in super shape and I hope it goes to someone who will appreciate it. It will come with a framed original ad where I'm 99% sure it's the car in the picture. Also comes with remote start. nbsp;and for the purist I have original radio w/tape deck.
