BMW 635csi 1978 reg Rare Manual just 52000 miles for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 441 votes

Purchased new by a Shipbuilder in Buckie Scotland. used sparingly as mileage in November 1986 was just 19840. Then owned by Portsmouth based farrier who kept the vehicle until I purchased it on 28th November 2007 when the mileage was around 41500. The mileage being 52000 just now.

The car was undersealed from new or very early on (Tectyl) and unlike many is not a rust bucket but in excellent condition for its age. There are some blemishes here and there. some stone chips too. interior wise it is very good too. though the original inserted floors mats are past their best.

Service book history BMW wise runs till 25/09/2006. the very low mileage the previous owner did probably means it may well have had small service done elsewhere. Knowing this situation but with the stunning appearance of the car I really could not turn the car down.

I took it to our local BMW Specialists who have looked after it since. they were amazed at the condition on the car. inside out side underneath in the bonnet. They were most impressed. They would be happy to speak to anyone who has a genuine interest in purchasing the car.

Since then they have maintained her and done various repairs. I have had the brakes overhauled. new calipers on the front. Past parts have overhauled the twin servos. the master cylinder and the rear calipers. The front bumper chrome insert is new the old one having deteriorated all has been renewed or refitted and painted. The suspension which originally was a little soft has been made a bit firmer and made the motor a much nicer drive for that. The 5 alloy wheels were refurbished (not kerbed but just dull) and a new set of tyres fitted just 1400 miles ago.

She has a fresh MOT and 12 months road tax. She is ready for anything.

I have a copy of Total BMW from 2005 which has a photo shoot and article on the car where they suggest she could be one of the earliest 635. . They were introduced in the UK in September 1978. her serial number means she was the 29th built and  "How many Left" show one registered for 1978.

She doesn't have any of the electrical engine management systems of the later models. so a much safer bet to choose. but she drives well and is reliable and whilst mot an M she I am sure will be fast enough for most of us.

I have been considering a sale for a while and in consequence have been looking at prices that have been achieved. The asking price bears that in mind. People at shows think she looks a million dollars.  The only thing she will need some in a drivers side door seal Please remember this is not a £1500 motor that needs £40000 spending on her. Recently a slightly lower mileage motor of 1981 vintage went for £16000. You can drive her from now till 2015 for just the fuel.

I would be happy  for anyone to view the car and if they have appropriate insurance to test drive her. Please do not come and kick the wheels. genuine interest only please.

I will pop some more photos on in a couple of days. or I can forward any photo that is required to a prospective purchaser.

Payment only by electronic transfer and funds cleared before collection.

New photos attached today. I have spoken at length with the BMW Specialist who have looked after the car since 2007. They suggest that the car is well worth the sort of money I put on my Buy it now price (£11. 995)  and also the reserve I have set which is naturally a tad lower than the buy it now price. Whilst I have bids on the car so far they are the sort of money that buys a mediocre car. I would welcome viewings and phone calls to book them over the weekend after seeing the car you can then decide if you wish to win the car or look for a worse one. The motor demands to be seen to appraise it properly. If you cannot provide insurance cover at least I can give you a drive round. but still no time wasters please

Ring me to see it. 07881 748415.
