1973 Lotus Elan + 2 130 ‘S’ **NO RESERVE** £1 start! for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.1) based on 396 votes

For sale here. is arguably one of the most highly sought after examples of the Lotus Elan+2. a 130 ‘S'. Incredibly it has been in the same family ownership since 1980 and has spent the last 25 years or so in dry storage. It is a complete. unmolested and highly original. It is to be sold with a genuine NO RESERVE and will start at just £1. So however you value this Lotus Elan +2 130 ‘S' project. please leave your highest bid knowing you are in with a genuine chance of owning it.

I make no apologies for the length of the description that follows. as I have found from selling a number of classic cars on ebay that the genuine and serious buyers out there appreciate an honest and in depth view. especially if perhaps they are based overseas. However. I would also strongly recommend and urge you to come and view the car if you can. to make sure you are 100% satisfied for yourself. This is a 10 day listing over two weekends which gives any prospective buyer plenty of opportunity to come and view and inspect the car.

I have been around classic cars for over 30 years. restoring and racing them. I enjoy and specialise in British classic cars of the 60's & 70's in the main. Through my contacts I love unearthing good. well restored or highly original unmolested examples and then take great satisfaction passing them on to other enthusiasts. I have. I believe. built up over the years a good reputation for dealing with people in an honest and straightforward manner and I only ever deal in classic cars that I would be delighted to own for myself.

Lotus Elan +2 prices are on the rise. which is not surprising as the original Elan is now commanding upwards of at least £50. 00 for a DHC and £35. 00 for a FHC in fully restored condition. With this in mind. it is fair to say that the Lotus Elan +2 is undervalued. especially as it can more than hold its own with the original Elan in terms of looks. rarity and performance. If you are looking for a fully restored example there are always a few to choose from. but finding a good project that has not been messed around with too much is arguably harder to find. PMH 277L is just that kind of worthy project.

Lotus cars have confirmed that. PMH 277L was built and completed by them on the 27th September 1972 and was first registered for the road on 26th February 1973 by the supplying Lotus main dealer. Bell & Covill. The chassis number also confirms that it was the 864th to be built since 1970. The engine is its original unit being numbered correctly as it left the factory. It was originally finished in lagoon blue with a silver roof but was obviously re-painted at some point before 1988 to Maroon whilst keeping the silver roof. Apart from that. I am unaware of any significant early history. but on 6th November 1980 PMH 277L was purchased by Edward Roy Kirk of London. The history file contains several invoices dated 1980 onwards from many of the respected Lotus dealers of the time such as Len Street. Bell & Covill. Caterham Cars and Christopher Neil. The tax disc in the window is dated 1988 and I would imagine this is when Edward last used PMH 277L before parking it up in his London garage. It stayed there for a number of years until his brother in law Shane Alce bought it from him with a view to going through it and getting it back on the road. that was 21 years ago. I have a letter of authenticity from Shane confirming the history. Before Shane put PMH 277L away in his garage it was running and driving but has not been touched since.

The pictures you see are current having been taken just 24hrs before this sale started. They give a fair representation of the cars condition today. What they don't show perhaps are some of the imperfections and it is for this reason I would actively encourage you to come and have a look at the car and inspect it for yourself. If you choose not to view before bidding that's ok. but please make sure you are 100% committed to buying on that basis. before you make your bid.

Today. PMH 277L in my opinion is a worthy. strip. restore and rebuild project. It would be a crying shame for it to be used for its parts (I appreciate the engine alone has some considerable value). It's in too good an order for that. The body as far as I can see has no signs of accident damage. It needs a repaint but there is no heavy cracking of the gel coat. The chassis is straight and whilst it does have surface rust I could not see any signs of heavy corrosion. The photograph with the rear wheel off was taken to give you some idea of what to expect from the chassis and suspension components. which again. whilst having surface rust still look restorable to me. The brake pads have been taken out for ease of moving the car about. The brakes will need overhauling. I put a battery on the car and most of the electrics appear to working. the lights. wipers. electric windows etc. although no ignition light came on.   I was informed that the engine and gearbox were fine when the Elan was put away. I put a little oil down the bores before any attempt was made to turn the engine over and it turns over freely but I have not tried to start it. There is a complete stainless steel exhaust main pipe and rear box. but they had broken off at the connection with the front long centre branch manifold. so are currently off the car. The interior. as you can see. is all there and on the whole is quite presentable but it does have signs use and age. There is a small hole in the roof lining but it is hidden by the passenger side sun visor. The driver's seat. lower cushion has a repair to it and a split that has been taped up. There are no footwell carpets. The original steering wheel's suede covering has failed in two places and has been taped up. I manually popped the headlights up to show they are complete but the vacuum system will need overhauling.

PMH 277L comes with two sets of keys. an older style V5. the aforementioned invoices from the 1980's. a copy of the history letter and an original factory workshop manual. It is also tax exempt.

Conditions of Sale

As you can see I have a 100% history on ebay and I am a firm believer in doing business in an honest and straightforward manner. I have tried to give a truly reflective and in depth description but you must decide if this is the car for you. you are most welcome to view the car by arrangement. if you bid without viewing that's fine by me because I have done that in the past myself but you must also honour the deal and go through with it regardless on that basis. Please. if you are bidding from overseas take into account exchange rates. transport costs and any import tax you may be liable to pay before bidding.

The car will only be sold via ebay and I will let it run to the very end. so it will NOT be sold early at any price. I believe this gives everyone who has shown an interest in the car a clear and fair opportunity to bid and hopefully win the car. I have NOT advertised it elsewhere. If it helps I am able to deliver the car for a sensible fee. I have access to a trailer. I am happy to deal with overseas bidders and able to assist in transportation as long as cleared funds are in place. Any questions please feel free to ask via ebay.

If you have 10 or less feedback ratings would you please make contact via ebay to advise me of your intentions before bidding. I would like the winning bidder to at least contact me within 24 hours of the finish date to discuss payment and collection details. Cleared funds will be required before the vehicle is delivered or released. no Paypal payment due to their high charges. Payment and collection within seven days of the auction end. If you cannot meet this timescale please contact me before bidding.

For a bit of further peace of mind please see below an email I received from another happy customer on receiving his car in Australia. which he bought ‘blind' and I helped with the shipping. followed by some genuine feedback comments from other satisfied classic car buyers via ebay.

Hi Cameron. /span>

This morning i had my first look at the 504 Coupe. and i am extremely happy. and i could not be more thrilled about your honesty and integrity in describing the car.

The 504 is basically exacltly how you described it which is a credit to yourself. As you described. one or two small blemishes in the paint but on the whole a very very clean and immaculate car. i'm still coming to grips with how unused the interior looks its just fantastic. im thrilled to bits over the car. very very happy.   Once primed with fuel she started first piston up and ran like a swiss watch.

I wont be able to take delivery of the car for another few days because the quarantine inspection is not happening until tuesday morning.

so all in all cameron a very good result. thanks for all your assitance and help and most importantly allowing me the oppurtunity to purchase the car from england. im very very happy with the car. also i sincerely hope that you have now received the outstanding amount. please if you could confirm for me whether or not you have received it yet. it should have been there days ago now.

Many Regards

Leon. /span>
