hello classic VW lovers.
here we have a barn find 61 split bus. This was imported from the states a little while ago to serve as a restoration project for my small resto company in nottinghamshire ( www. sharpcustoms. co. uk . excuse the shameless self promotion). it has sat for a couple of months and I'm now forced to accept the fact that we are simply too busy with our clients vehicles to restore this bus ourselves and it would be a huge shame for it to just sit around in our workshop getting covered in dust and not being used. so for now i am going to have to put my air cooled dreams on hold and offer this vehicle up to someone who will give it the attention it deserves.
this bus is a perfect candidate for restoration. i know because i picked it as such. it will need all the usual stuff. floors. arches sills etc (what splitty of this age doesn't?) but the main thing to note is that all the doors open and close perfectly. the gaps all around are absolutely spot on. this bus is as straight as a die. yes there are rusty bits that need replacing but the framework of the bus itself is spot on. showing no signs of damage or structural weaknesses.
the bus benefits from an engine and box (no idea if it works or not but how easy are these to buy or repair!). pop out side windows all round and a funky blue over green weathered paint finish. one option would be to get it working and leave the body as is. it would make an amazing rat look van.
