FANTASTIC SHOW CONDITION AUSTIN 1100 RED 2 DOOR for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 527 votes

Welcome to this auction for my 1969 Austin 1100 Mark II two door saloon finished in vibrant signal red with black vinyl interior. This wonderful car is in my view absolutely the best surviving two door in the country and is for sale as part of a small private collection. which is only being rationalised because I am shortly to lose my storage facility.

I will not pull any punches – everybody loves their own car. but as a regular show attendee. I have NEVER seen a two door ADO16 as good as this car. This is truly a show car. but in my ownership it has also been driven and it is a regular display car at the Goodwood Revival where I have been besieged with interest and good wishes about the car.

So. you are bidding for an Austin 1100 MkII two door registered on 1 March 1969 on a ‘G' registration. I am only the fifth owner from new. This is a very rare model indeed – most 1100/1300's are four door models and the MkII two door with the central speedo dash is the rarest of all the two door models. These cars had a unique interior trim in quilted vinyl and are quite different internally from the other ADO16 models.

I have no early history for the car at all. but I do know that it was taken off of the road in the late 1990's and treated to a sympathetic restoration. Much of this was enabled by the breaking of another ADO16 saloon (a four door) and as a consequence the car comes with a veritable mountain of spare parts including glass. mechanicals. a fuel tank. the rare Hydrolastic displacers. road wheels and many. many other items. The buyer of the car will need to bring a van or estate car to collect the spares package that accompanies the car.

BEFORE ANYBODY ASKS. I WILL NOT BE SPLITTING THE SPARES PACKAGE FROM THE CAR AND THE TWO WILL ONLY BE SOLD TOGETHER.

Back to the car. At the time of the restoration. the car was fitted with a rebuilt 1275cc engine from the donor breaking vehicle. The car is correctly registered at DVLA and the V5C shows it as a 1275cc engine. The 1300 engine provides more torque and is welcome on longer runs for the extra lung power it gives the car.

Mechanically the car is outstanding. It starts on the button and settles to a quiet idle. The gearbox is as good as it gets on an ADO16 (they were never rifle bolt precise. but this is very good indeed). The car goes. stops. and steers brilliantly and is rattle and knock free – it literally feels like new.

The body condition is a joy. The bright signal red paint gleams as freshly as when it was resprayed during the restoration. It is evident that the car was sprayed “windows out” because there are new window rubbers all round and no overspray anywhere. All the chrome is excellent and panel fit is also very good indeed.

The quilted vinyl interior is wonderful and is in excellent condition bar a tiny nick in the passenger seat. which you do not even notice. New carpets were fitted during the restoration as were the sensible addition of inertia reel retracting seat belts to the front and rear. making this an ideal classic for those with younger children. The interior is immaculate and all the fitted equipment works perfectly. including the heater. which boasts an excellent demister.

The engine bay is fully detailed and presents very well at shows. The car has recently benefitted from much expenditure including a new water pump. new radiator. new cylinder head gasket and various other items. As you would expect on a car of this quality. there is a brand new 12 months MOT passed last week with no advisories. The car is of course tax exempt.

A number of sensible modifications have been made to make the car more pleasant to drive. As well as the aforementioned inertia reel belts front and rear. there are twin horns. two speed wipers. hazard lights. and oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges in a discreet panel under the far offside of the dashboard. Please be aware that the wood rimmed steering wheel in the pictures is NOT included in the sale – it will be removed and the original and correct large Bakelite wheel will be refitted.

I cannot emphasise enough what a beautiful car this is. Many people have come up to me at shows and said they cannot believe how lovely it is; and it drives as well as it looks. Viewing is advised. and indeed welcomed – I am located in Bromley on the Kent/southeast London border approximately ten miles from the M25 motorway Junctions 3 or 4. Please use the ‘contact the seller' facility to arrange a viewing.

Please be advised that I am not going to give this car away – it is one of a kind and it is priced accordingly. Please do not message me and ask what the reserve price is – it is commensurate with current classic guides and with my insurance valuation.

Finally. I have not messed you around so I ask that you do not mess me around please. Sorry but after years of experience on eBay. I will not accept any foreign or international bids. nor any from bidders with under ten feedback ratings. If you are genuine. you will contact me first. Finally I work with the Law and will vigorously pursue non-showing bidders. so please only bid if you have the necessary funds and actually want to buy the car; and don't spoil things for genuine purchasers.

I hope that this lovely car finds a decent home. Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding!

Hello,

I'm very interested in this car, it looks like it's in incredible condition and exactly what I'm after. Would it be possible for me to come and have a look at it? I live in London so it's not very far for me to go.

My number, if you want to chat, is 07715 579 630.

Cheers

Martin
