1967 Datsun Fairlady 1600 Roadster.

A pretty rare car in the UK. the Datsun roadster is a great open top alternative to the more commonplace MG and Triumph offerings. Personally I think it dramatically out styles them. but I would say that wouldn't I ?
The car hails from San Jose California. and I bought it from my friend over there. It had recently been restored to road use after a period of inactivity- Whilst the paint job isnt the best the world has ever seen. it compares very well to the usual US results. yet I feel it is the underpinnings and drivetrain which count.
No welding repairs. panel replacement or corrosion issues to deal with meant the attention was turned elsewhere.
The car received new front and rear springs. shocks. new brake calipers. cylinders. flexi hoses. pads and shoes. whilst the motor benefits from MSD ignition and revamped carbs.
All engine ancillarys are in good order. with no oil pressure or water temp issues. The engine is lovely and the car performs very well. Gear changes are trouble free. and the exhaust makes a rewarding rasp when pressing on- something that the car is happy to do. It has just started to blow a little on the exhaust. but the system is very good so I guess it is just a joint.
It is great fun to drive. very responsive and with direct steering. I can see why roadster drivers tend to be pretty happy looking folks!

It is a 67. which means a low windscreen. and flared front arches- it is also a 4 speed. dual carb engine with header style manifold and exhaust. I don't pretend to be an expert on these cars. but I will endeavor to answer any questions.
The hood is in good order. it has new correct carpets fitted throughout. it has a console missing from the centre of the dash. but i think it would be very easy to make a replacement and also a piece of trim missing. one section not fitted) and some badges also MIA - There are a couple of online resources for these cars so spares and replacements shouldn't be an issue.
I have to add that I think the American Racing mags are fantastic. and the tyres are like new too!

To summarise. br> this is a pretty unique little roadster. it is on the road. is mot'd. drives well but needs registering (simple process I can assist with ) all duties are paid and the Nova cert is present.
It looks sharp. but has US paint. some trim missing and some marking of the chrome pieces. as well as the drivers seat needing some upholstery. Saying that it is still pretty damned good - rust and corrosion free and is great to drive.
Having seen resto projects in Europe for more than I am asking I am confident the new owner will be very pleased with the car. even if it could benefit from the aforementioned cosmetic tinkering.

The car is in Guildford Surrey. for viewings or collection.
It may end up being advertised elsewhere so the rights to remove the listing are reserved should that arise.
