Needs paint and upholstery--or turn it into one of those $100K 280sl--Surely time is on your side while you complete this super solid running car.

I had bought this car in Florida about 5 years ago with the thought of easy restore--As it turned out the motor and tranny had been rebuilt and then sat for many years--by the previous owners--have receipts for the rebuild. After spending over $4K myself getting it mechanically sound (engine had great compression but all the other things) complete redo on the gas tank and fuel pump--all brakes calipers and rotors redone and all the fluids and radiator flush and the completely tuned and now runs perfect. Strong runner--with brand new tires--

The body is super solid and looks to be never damaged and original color--But needs repaint with some paint flaking on the drivers side-about 3 dents golf ball size. Chrome bumpers in great shape but other trim is only driver quality. all glass xlint--look at the pics of the floor and fender wells super solid. trunk and interior floors are like perfect with no sign of rust ever.

The interior is all there but needs redo--dash and headliner are easily dyed to save alittle $$   Previous owner said he didn't think the soft top was ever up--Haven't even checked that out yet. Becker radio and AC are included that make this a fully loaded Pagoda.

Currently Arizona registration to March 2014--no sales tax between private parties in Arizona.

"The Mercedes W 113 type. nick-named “Pagoda” due to its hardtop roofline. is in my opinion one of the most beautiful cars ever made. " 280slpagoda.

The 1960s' SLs were offered with three successive engines. 2. 3. 2. 5 and. finally. 2. 8 liters. The 280 SL was built between 1967 and 1971. with just 143 cars made the first year. The final version lasted just eight months. from July 1970 to March 1971. and was discontinued to make way for the new W107 series. The 280 SL has a straight-six. 2. 78cc (or 1. 9-liter) engine and featured Bosch mechanical fuel injection. single overhead camshaft and cast alloy rocker arm cover. With a compression ratio of 9. 5:1. the 280 SL engine produced 180hp at 5. 00 rpm. with 193-lbs. ft. of torque. Standard features for a 280 SL included: four-wheel power disc brakes. tachometer. console tray. wood trim on top of the dash. clock. three-point seat belts. and soft map pocket on each door. SLs could be ordered with a four-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic. In the manual. all four gears were synchromesh. Some cars came with the very rare five-speed manual. Air conditioning did not come on the cars from the factory. It was dealer installed. The 280 SL benefited from an oil cooler. replacing the oil-water heat exchanger on previous engine designs. "Bear in mind that any 280 SL is not a performance car. but a rather quick. luxuriously appointed sports car. Many vehicles fell into abusive hands. Cram says.
