1972 Porsche 914-6 Conversion Race Car – “Sunkissed”

Orange & Blue Exterior/ Black Racing Seat

Forman MotorWorks is pleased to present for the sale this great looking. well-sorted. and ready to race vintage Porsche 914-6 Conversion Race Car. This example was built in 2001 at a cost of $80. 00 by the very reputable Patrick Motorsports in Phoenix. AZ. It was expertly maintained by Wayne Baker. Personalized Autohaus. in San Diego. CA throughout its racing career. This 914-6 has also just returned from an extremely comprehensive mechanical overhaul (including the engine) performed at Patrick Motorsports to the tune of $14. 00. It has only been run for break-in since the work was performed. This race car is truly turn-key and ready to go. it needs nothing but a new driver and a track to run on.

The car started life as a street legal 1972 914-4 (4 cylinder) purchased new in Mesa. AZ in 1972. In 2001. James Patrick. owner of Patrick Motorsports acquired to the car specifically to convert it into a race car for its current owner. who happens to be a Porsche collector and former President for the Arizona region of the Porsche Club of America. To start things off. the car received a period correct 2. 0 liter (single plug) Porsche Flat 6-Cylinder and a 5-speed 901 transmission. It also sports 911 cross-drilled and vented brake rotors and 930 Pagid brake pads at each corner. These enhancements meet all the U. S. Vintage and Club Sport specifications. The body is completely stock with the exception of slightly more rake added to the windshield. In all of the track events this car participated in. the windshield angle has never presented a problem during inspection. Just like in a stock 914. the roof panel is removable if you prefer more of an ‘open-air’ experience while racing.

The absolute reliability and durability of this car is impressive. thanks to the high-quality build that used top shelf components. Impressively. this 914-6 was able to participate for the entire race in almost all of the events it attended. Having a reliable car when going to the track is key. it’s frustrating and disappointing when you put all the effort of loading the car. driving (usually a good distance) to the track. unloading the car. paying the entry fee. etc. just to be stuck with the car in the paddocks all weekend because it has one mechanical issue after the other. Anyone involved in the sport of vintage racing can relate to that feeling. A total let-down and a waste of time and money.

With its distinct Orange and Blue livery. and the “Sunkissed” name. it exudes personality and character. This Porsche had been seen in Vintage Motorsport and other magazines. It’s achieved several podium finishes at Road America. Sebring. Watkins Glen. Laguna Seca. Road Atlanta. Mid Ohio. and more. It also has the distinction of being the HSRW season Porsche champion. One of the great things about this car is that it’s eligible for almost any type of vintage racing. including PCR. POC. HSR. SVRA. VSCDA. HSRW. BRIC. and more. Whenever this 914-6 was in need of maintenance or repair. the owner took care of it immediately. All related history. receipts. and records are available. A spare set of gears. a set of two Magnaflow mufflers. and a second set of matching wheels and tires are also included in the sale.

** In it's current state. this car is NOT street legal **
