 1971 Dodge Camper Van
NO RESERVE  Thanks for stopping by and viewing "Cletus". the 1971 Dodge Camper Van. first time our eyes met. I new he was coming home with me.    This van is in really nice original shape. it is what I would call a Survivor. Original paint. and interior. it can only be original once. that is what I love about these kind of rigs.   This van was special ordered and built in 05/70. then was converted to a Motorhome the next month 06/70.   It was sold new at Teague Dodge. here in Salem Oregon.   I have tons of receipts on the upkept of Cletus all through the years.   It spent most of its life here in Salem Oregon. a gentle that went by the name Clarence.   Up until around 2002. and at that time it had 121K miles on it.   The second owner had it up until 2008. when it got sold to some folks in Seattle. Washington. his name was Buzz.    In 2010. it came back to Portland. Oregon.   The last service was done in 2012. had the heads replaced with rebuilt units. tune up. I have a receipt for $2408.    Cletus. has 134. 18 miles on it right now. and this is the correct mileage on it. from all the receipts.   This is a rig that you can fly in if you so choose. and drive it home.   He runs very good. tires are in excellent shape. and the brakes work great.     This is one of these rigs that I am sort of sad to see go. I have a thing for Vintage Campers. Vans and Wagons. especially odd ball types. and this one fits right in.    I do have it titled in my name. it has a free and clear title.   The body on this Camper van is in really nice shape. Original paint. meaning. it has never been painted. bone stock original that was applied on it in 1970.    The paint for the most part is in good shape.   The green metallic has aged some. and could possibly be nicer if someone buffed it. but not sure if it would hold because of the age.   The white paint is in nice shape.   Overall the paint has some chips and scratches. small dings on it.   There are no touch up spots on the paint. so you could probably touch some up if you like down the road.   The roof. has some light surface rust on it. personally I like it. doesn't bother me. but you could repaint the roof as well.   This is an Original Camper van. love the Material they used on the Pop-Up top.    All the doors and windows open nicely on it.   The windshield has a small chip in the front. that could use repair.   The driver side rear glass also has a crack in it. there is a Columbia River Gorge sticker of some of it.    All the side widows with aluminum framing slide open.    Really for this Old Dodge. to service this long is amazing.   The body is virtually rust free. really amazing. the rockers. bottom of the doors are really nice. no bubbles. super clean for original.   The undercarriage is excellent. perfect floors and frame.   You guys and gals who live on the East coast would be amazed.   The only area were I saw a few little bubbles and pretty minor are below the rear taillight on the drivers side.   All the lights work on it by the way. reverse. marker lights and even the Lic. Plate light.    All the trim is in decent shape as well. a few small dings here and there. but nothing major.   There is one small dent in the rear bumper. there is a IN-N-OUT sticker on it.   The passenger rear taillight does have a small crack in it that has been repaired and sealed.    Behind the spare tire. there is a small crease. not to bad. someone might have just backed into something and the tire mount creased it a little. no biggy you can see it. and if you were not looking you would never see it.    Overall a really nice example of a Vintage Dodge Camper Van.    The interior for its age is excellent.   The seats are all original. and in nice shape for the age.   The dash pad has a small crack in the center see picture. otherwise very nice.   The dash area is clean.   It does have AC installed from the factory. but it is not currently working. there is no belt on the Compressor. but it is free.   It probably needs to be recharged. and gone through. good thing is. that it is all there. and you could have it repaired fairly easily.    All the gauges work. the heater works. Cig lighter works.   It has a AM/FM CD player installed. with speakers in the rear. and it sounds nice.    The flooring is original. in okay shape. but has some small cuts and repairs on it.   Originally it had a Small stove. a sink. and an Ice Box (no fridge).    Someone in the last few years removed it since they were not using it.   That would be nice to have. but it is gone now. plus it takes a lot of room up.   If you want to install some back in that would be fairly easy to do.   You can see the holes in the back panel. and there are some holes in floor that have been covered.   It only has one gas tank in the rear. originally it had 2. but one has been removed.    The dog house on the engine. is in nice shape. but looks like it had a couple repairs done to it.   What is really nice. is how roomy it is inside. top down or up.   I am 5'11". and can walk very easily inside. probably have about 8" above my head in it.   This Camper van Sleeps 5 currently. have all the original Cots with it.   The one over the front seats is really interesting. never saw this before.   It also has all the original curtains as well.    This rig is super cool for sure. and very useable for anyone with an imagination.    Mechanically it is in really good shape.   I have receipt dating back to around 1972. in a large notebook. with all the service history.    The engine runs very good. it starts right up. it does not blow smoke. or burn any oil.   The heads recently were rebuilt. engine runs very smooth.    As I mentioned before it does have AC but needs to be recharged. and possibly pump rebuilt but it is free spinning. a new pump actually is not that expensive actually. maybe $300-400 aftermarket.    The transmission is in good shape overall. it may need to be serviced in the future. it shift good. think it may have a shift kit in it.   While you are driving it. you may feel that it needs to shift sooner then it does. then it shift gears. I have gotten used to it. I think it is just the way it is. I would have no probably hitting the open road with it the way it is though.   I think the transmission is in good shape personally.   The ujoints all feel good. no clunks. or noise out of the rearend.   The brakes are in good shape. it stops very nice.   The tires. are almost new. I would say they have 95% tread on them. they really are in excellent shape.   Wheels are original as well.    Mechanically this van is in pretty good shape the way it is.   Oil looks good. as does the Coolant.    Please read the auction and view the pictures many times. if you have questions let me know I would be glad to answer them for you.   This is a NO RESERVE auction. meaning that I am going to let this car go for the highest bid.   Thanks. *U. S. and International bidders welcome as long as your friendly!   Back when I was a kid. were talking 80's. I would cut out pictures of cars. and lower them. etc.   Well. I am okay with a computer. but still have problems with cut and past. so I did what I used to do. and thought. what would this van look like Lowered with some KeyStones on it. I think pretty cool!!!    My little camping stuff is staying with me. nothing that is loose is in included. this goes for my bike. chairs. coolers etc.                      You can put 1 or 2 cots up if you like.               Cot above the Front seats??? Yep. perfect for a kid.   This Van sleeps 5.                        Free and clean title. VIN's all match.                This shows you how clean the undercarriage. this is the frame inside the wheel well with the VIN on it.               These plates. are not the current ones that it has. it has the newer Washington plates. that are expired.   I thought it looked better with Period correct plates on it for show.                                              Inside all the jams are amazing clean. hard to find a rig like this.                                                    Forgot a close up. but the white sticker on the rear window. there is some cracks on that piece of glass. personally I would just leave the glass. just wanted you to know they were there.     Rockers on this Van are amazing.
