1956 Triumph TR3

Rarely. with British sports cars. do you get such an incredible history as we have for our TR3. The last owner bought the car in 1964 then kept it for the last 49 years. maintaining. improving. but. above all. using the car as it was intended.
When bought in '64. the TR3 had been completely refurbished and uprated with a view to using it for sprint and circuit racing for which we have every single bill. The engine featured a big-valve head and Iskenderian camshaft along with twin SUs.
SAD 543 went on to compete in the first British Hot Rod Association meeting at Duxford Airfield in May 1964. where it finished second. We have the certificate. the final results sheet and a photograph of the car in action at that event.
Fast forward to 1998; Malcolm Harris of Brockley. Suffolk. treated SAD 543 to a full body-off restoration. The original engine was rebuilt by Brian Randle featuring lightened and balanced internals. Vincent 1000 inlet valves. the Isky cam was reprofiled and nitrided. and twin Dellorto side draughts replaced the SUs. In addition. a high-capacity sump was used in conjunction with a high-capacity oil pump and oil cooler. A Kenlowe electric fan was fitted and an overdrive to the back of the standard gearbox.
The rest of the running gear was rebuilt and upgraded to suit. featuring Spax front dampers with uprated lever arms at the rear. A steering rack conversion. a thicker anti-roll bar. a brake servo (disc brakes) and alloy wheels with Yokohama tyres.
The interior has been fully retrimmed in tan leather with contrasting dark green carpeting.
Since the completion of the rebuild. this TR has seen extensive use as a summer road car and on European touring rallies.
Along with every bill from 1960 to date. we have numerous photographs of the car at various stages in its life.
We love that this car is not a sterile concours queen. but an evolving. used classic that's been built to drive. It has a wonderful feel about it and a rorty engine that makes country drives a blast. We've photographed it with the 60s SAH pattern hardtop on. but it also has a new tan hood and tonneau. In the boot is a pair of excellent side screens – a combination for every type of weather! We also have the front bumper and heater. though neither are currently fitted for weight-saving reasons.
In short. this is a very pretty TR3 with an irreplaceable history that would be perfect for touring. rallies or a bit of historic motorsport.
