One of just two examples remaining. The quality of this car simply has to be seen to be believed & is every bit on a par with a Rolls Royce 20hp if not considerably better. It was shipped new to Australia as one of a pair. the dry climate responsible for its remarkable state of preservation.

The car has in recent years had a stem to stern restoration taking three years by noted & meticulous specialist Arthur Archer of Great Dunmow. Recent bills with the car total over £84. 00 eye watering pounds. To drive this car is an absolute revelation. It it is taut tight & solid in a way rarely experienced in such old cars. all day long 50MPH cruising is attained up hill & down dale in an effortless manner. Indeed on faster roads it behooves one to set the speed using the steering wheel mounted governor as a very effective cruise control.

The car is finished in a patinated greyish turquoise which has lost its original lustre & presents beautifully; the wings being black. Period details abound from the steps to the rear dickey seat & superb handles to assist with ingress & egress to the main compartment. Divers helmet style rear lights are fitted & twin spotlights above the scuttle.

To the interior is black leather to the seating surfaces augmented by original black leather to the doors. A useful storage hatch is located behind the drivers seats. The dash is equipped with a full coterie of the requisite instruments. the oiling gauge pointer going to the G of "Oiling" when at full chat. All the pull down blinds are in place & fully functional.

Under the lift off bonnet is the masterpiece for which Lanchester were so justifiably famous. The 3. 0 litre six cylinder engine is a work of art festooned with machine turned parts giving the engine a gleaming Bugatti style finish. The engine starts instantly & settles down to a purring idle. Not lacking in power it pulls strongly in all gears which are in turn easily engaged from the lovely 'box. Everything about the car is well engineered & tactile. Indeed if I had to choose any car from the the showroom to do Peking Paris with no modifications. this would be my choice. A period AA badge sits atop the radiator.

The doctors coupé coachwork is Lanchesters own & reputed to be one of two known. The rear dickey makes a useful luggage storage area & there is an additional fold out luggage rack mounted to the rear. The windscreen takes the form of a sharply angled Vee giving the car a very very period appearance.

This is an exceptional rare car with the mechanics restored to as new condition at vast expense. After the rebuild the car was driven down to the Pyrenees by way of a running in trip. Since rebuild it has done less then 4000 miles.
