An amazing 1948 Cadillac 4-door sedan 62 series. Absolutely no rust or body repair history. No waves in this body with a mirror-like gloss black acrylic enamel finish done in 2003. This car was originally bought by producer Hal B. Wallis in Los Angeles with the intent to give as a gift to Greta Garbo. She retired early from the film industry in 1941 and had moved to New York. Wallis wanted her to come back and do some more films for him and tried to lure her with this car as a gift. Well. she never came back and never drove the car. Hal owned the car until 1976 (usually parked at Paramount) until the second owner took care of her for 35 years. It is claimed the the miles are accurate. but I have no hard documentation. However. there is a great deal of evidence that indicates the low mileage. The engine and transmission operate as if they are new. The Hydramatic shifts perfectly (many have a long shift between 2nd and 3rd) and the fluid is clear as if new. The engine starts easily. purrs very quietly. does not smoke. has no fumes from the crankcase. no exhaust leaks. etc. Gaskets look original all the way around and the motor and transmission do not leak. The seats are original and show no wear. The driver's seat does not show any weakness in the padding nor the cover. The seats are extremely firm and comfortable as they should be. The front glass looks to be original with no dings or cracks. No rock chips on front of hood. The car has always been stored inside; there is no evidence of sun damage to the interior.
Many of these old cars are a beast to drive. but this one is exceptional. Drives straight and true at highway speeds and brakes very nicely. I love to drive this car. in fact my wife and I drove it from San Diego to Las Vegas last month with no issues. The tires have less than 800 miles. the battery and starter were replaced this past Summer. All interior and exterior lights. speedometer. odometer. power antenna and updated stereo all work. We just had a complete overhaul of the brake system completed this month. All drums. master cylinder. hoses. cylinders and shoes were replaced at a cost of over $2800. so there's no guess work with this system.  All glass is near perfect with slight wiper marks on the driver's side. There is absolutely no rust history. the undercarriage and frame look extremely nice with no corrosion. All original jack and tools mounted in the trunk. This car does not have power steering or brakes. but Cadillac engineered the car to drive comfortably.
The chrome and stainless is in very good shape. but not perfect. There is some surface rust/patina on the driver's side rear bumper. but you have to look for it. There are no dents or dings on the bumpers and you have to look hard for any scratches in the paint. Bottom line. this car is incredible and is great to drive!
