The P6 is a bit of a mechanical oddball. If you don't know much about them. it has disc brakes all round. but the rears are mounted to the diff. the rear suspension is linked by a de Dion tube. the front shocks are horizontally-mounted and extend rather than contract over bumps. the body has integrated crumple zones and a collapsible steering column. and the engine is a two litre 4-cylinder overhead cam. Not bad for 1967!
This particular car has 71. 65 miles on it. I drive it nearly every day. so this is increasing - it's never let me down. even in the recent winter conditions. It's white (paint code is actually "Rover White") with a black/red full leather interior. Transmission is the optional Borg-Warner BW35 three-speed 'box. common to so many Volvos and Triumphs.
It's in cosmetically good condition. but I wouldn't yet call it "show-ready". It's been resprayed at some point in the past. The chromework and glass surrounds are all good-to-perfect. The interior is OK - one of the rear seat uprights doesn't match and is patched with tape (please see photos). I have a complete set of black factory leather seats that can go with the car if you so desire - they match the dash and door panels perfectly. but require reupholstering. The headliner is perfect. Carpets are good but there is some wear on the drivers' sill trim. The dash and door wood trim is perfect. but there's a single crack in the dash vinyl top. Front and rear seat belts are all present/complete and work just fine. The steering wheel plastic trim is cracked in a couple places. All the windows wind up and down properly. and all four quarterlight mechanisms work.
Mechanically. the car is spot-on. It starts first-time with a little choke on a cold morning. and the transmission is smooth through all forward and reverse gears. There's no bad noises from the driveline. differential. or suspension. Tires have about 80% tread remaining; wheels are original with factory trims. The temperature needle sits about the 1/3 mark and never rises higher (see photos - I took the listing photos after a 20-mile run). It had a new central muffler and new (NOS) factory exhaust manifold fitted last year; the exhaust system is custom and - in my opinion - is perhaps a little noisy.
Electrically. everything works. yes. even the Icealert cold-weather warning thing. I had no idea what it was until it started flashing at me one particularly cold November morning. The heater and all its controls work great. but its kinda noisy. All the lights. horn. wipers. etc work just fine. The radio (a period Motorola unit) doesn't work. but I've never investigated why. The clock also doesn't work. which means it's always lunchtime in Rover-land.
Documentation-wise. it has a free and clear Oregon title. I have a (very well-worn) factory service manual that I'll include with the car.
It's a good. solid car - and will hold freeway speeds here in Oregon just fine. It'd be a great weekend driver or - with a bit of TLC - an easy. genuine show-winner.
As I mentioned above. I'm selling as I have a 1970 P6 to restore. Please ask any and all questions; I'll answer whatever I can. Also please ask if you'd like to see photos of anything else - I have an album of 100+ photos avaialble. but eBay only allows 24 per listing.
On Jan-25-14 at 08:34:50 PST. seller added the following information:I've had a couple of people ask about recent work on the car. I mentioned the muffler. but aside from that it had a rebuilt dynamo (2012). new regulator (2013). new exhaust manifold (NOS. 2013). rebuilt carb (2012). new coolant hoses (2012). new battery (couple months ago). It last had a service about 500 miles ago. which included the usual oil change. new oil/air filters. and a cooling system flush.
