This is the very reluctant sale of my Mk2 GTI. I am only selling as my camper is in need of some bodywork and I need to raise funds to pay for the repairs before the show season starts. I looked for an Mk2 for a long time before purchasing this one. The car is an early (small bumper) Mk2. Being the 1987 model year it has a couple of features that mark it out as distinctive amongst other Mk2's. The mirrors are set back. behind quarter-light windows. along the doors. Also. this year benefitted from having the GTI “red line technology” not only on the grille and front and rear bumpers. but also on the side rubbing strips. I have owned my GTI for three years and have loved every minute. She has had only 4 previous owners and one of those was the car dealer that I purchased her from. He liked this car so much he registered it as his personal transport for a few months! She never fails to put a smile on my face! The GTI was the original hot hatch and many regard the best of the GTI breed to be the Mk2.   I would not disagree.

My GTI is taxed until July 2014 and MOT'd until May 2014. So she is ready to go.  She wears original paint and looks stunning with the BBS wheels (which are in excellent condition). She sits on four good tyres. the two on the front are almost new. She has a full Scorpion. stainless steel exhaust. which was fitted by the previous owner. She was also lowered by him. I wanted to return her to original height but just never got around to it. Too many other cars and too little time. Other than the above she is all original including the Blaupunkt radio-cassette!!!

The car has been looked after superbly all of its life. The service history is amongst the most impressive that I have ever seen. It includes not just the records in the service book. but receipts to support this. This. plus the MOT's confirm that this is one of the lowest mileage Mk2's around. I have the original sales receipt from Marshall's Garage in Reading. She cost £10. 56. 27 on 24th August 1987.   Recently. she has had a new clutch and all new gear linkages fitted (receipts to prove. of course). All the works on the car. including servicing. have been carried out by E B Jones. They are a well respected and long standing VW specialist in Liverpool.   I come from a family of VW enthusiasts and they do all the work on all our vehicles. I cannot speak too highly of them.   

The exterior of the car is original. As such she has a few tiny marks. These have been properly attended to. I like this as it shows originality. Inside the car is immaculate aside from an almost invisible repair to a tiny bit of bolster wear. If you were inclined to enter such events. with a little work this car could be a concours entry. I am not in that frame of mind and simply enjoy driving and taking care of one of the finest Mk2's left in the county. Please telephone me for a full. honest. description of the car.  

At first sight the price may seem a little high. It has been arrived at by looking at top end priced. low mileage. dealer cars for between £7000 & £8000 and comparing these to the other end of the scale. This being good condition high mileage cars for between £2000 & £3000. I am open to sensible offers on the car. Please contact me if you want to own one of the nicest un-restored Mk2's available. Test drives will only be available if you can provide proof that you are insured. Otherwise I will give a demonstration drive.
