1960 Mercedes 220SE Cabriolet. One of the very last built. As a consequence it benefits from the more powerful and refined engine that was being developed for the W111 220 SE that followed it. Effectively the last cars of this model range were test mules for the new engine being developed for the following model range. It is a hand built car and its rarity comes from its astronomical price and. more importantly its SE spec. the E being Einspritz or fuel injection. This then. along with its big brother the 300 (commonly known as Adenaur (after the then German chancellor who had a soft spot for the big luxury saloons)) was the first saloon car to feature fuel injection. This particular example was subject to an 18 month. extensive but sympathetic restoration as the mileage is believed to be correct. The work was trusted to Brian Gunney (now Redcastle Restorations) in Cardiff. one of the foremost restorers and authorities on Mercedes of the 50's/60's. Following the restoration the car was shown at many Mercedes events. regularly winning prizes. The car was also featured in the national monthly magazine "Mercedes Enthusiast" a couple of years ago and a mint copy of the magazine accompanies the car. An extremely rare opportunity to acquire an extremely rare car. BIDDING IS TO BUY.
