SUPERB 450 SL / ONE OWNER / LOW MILES / ORIGINAL MANUALS AND WINDOW STICKER!

Thank you for viewing my 1980 Mercedes Benz 450 SL. The VIN number for this car is WDB10704412065060. I purchased this SL from the original owner's (I knew this gentleman very well) estate one month ago. It has always been a 'Southern Car'. being driven in the states of Tennessee and North Carolina.  The heirs to the estate were going to trade it for a new convertible. I hated to see a wonderful automobile like this get traded to a dealership. then end up on the auction block. This car deserves a great home! I know a lot about. and am particularly fascinated with. nbsp;the 107 chassis Mercedes Benz SL. I own a fully restored 1989 560 SL with 22. 00 original miles. Allow me to begin to explain in great detail just how wonderful this 1980 450 SL is.

First of all. it is in superior condition and is accident - free. It is. most likely. one of the most well maintained and best looking low mileage 1980 SL 'daily drivers' on the road today. It is not perfect. nor is it a show car. However. I would still rate the overall condition 8 out of 10. This car looks stunning! You would have to see it to believe it! The paint is not original. but everything else is. The car was completely stripped and repainted several years ago by a restoration specialist in North Carolina. Anthracite Grey ( MB COLOR CODE 172) is the color. which was the original color of this car. and was a $629. 00 option in 1980. The paint is glossy and shines in every light. There is one minor pinhead size chip on the hood. nbsp;two on the hardtop and one minor chip on the trunk lid. The clearcoat on the hood is starting to lift a bit. From a distance. this is not even noticeable. However. nbsp;this can be repaired with wet sanding. Otherwise. the paint is super shiny and is in excellent condition and is free of any cracks. dents. dings. scratches or scrapes. The rubber moulding pieces that surround the entire perimeter of the car are in excellent condition. I replaced the passenger side long door moulding due to the fact the original one had shrunken and looked bad. The chrome trim is fair. It all shines. but there are a few dings on the front and rear bumper chrome top plates. This is extremely common with these 107 cars. but is an easy fix. The chrome trim piece around the grill is pitted a bit. However. the grill. itself. is in superior condition. There is some slight oxidation on all of the aluminum 'chrome looking' pieces around the windows and hard top. Once again. a common problem with ALL Mercedes Benz. both new and old. The glass is in good condition. The plastic headlamp casings and rear taillamp lenses are in superior condition. The hard top is in excellent condition. both inside and out. The black soft top fabric is in 'like new' condition with no rips or tears. The plastic rear window is a bit cloudy and should be polished by someone who treats plastic components. The tonneau panel that conceals the soft top storage compartment is in excellent condition. The 14" Kuhmo tires were installed at 95. 00 miles and show no signs of wear. whatsoever. The rims are near perfect with no curb damage! They shine like new. with the exception of paint rash on the actual wheel bolts (which cannot be avoided when someone does any work on wheel components. The underside of this SL is rust free and has been undercoated numerous times. The front spoiler has zero parking curb rash. and is in excellent condition.  The bumpers are all in proper alignment. I just treated the exterior with the Pinnacle Paint System. which enhanced the shine even more. All of the rubber components and interior were all treated. as well.

On to the interior. which is all 100% original.  This. with the exception of the aftermarket Blaupunkt radio / cd unit. However. have no fear. because included with this car is the ORIGINAL Becker round dial / cassette FM/AM unit!! This was a $355. 00 option on this car in 1980.  I would highly advise reinstalling this Becker unit to maintain the originality of the interior. There is just something about the old 'dial radios' in these cars that is attractive. The interior color is 'Sienna' (MB DYE CODE 137). 'Sienna' is a reddish / rust color that changes depending on the light. The seat material is Mercedes Benz famous super durable MB TEX. The seats are in amazing condition and show The carpet looks almost brand new. throughout. with no rips. tears or fading. The door panels are in amazing condition and suffer from zero shrinkage or wrinkling. The chrome plastic pieces on the seat sides are all intact and are in fair condition. The plastic trim is all in good condition. The center armrest in in perfect condition. The steering wheel is flawless. The gauges all look great and are in 100% working order. Even the clock works! The climate control panel is in good condition. AND THE AIR CONDITIONING BLOWS COLD!! However. for those of you that are familiar with older Mercedes Benz. We all know cold is not 'ice cold'. nbsp;as in the new cars. 'Ice cold' cabins were not high on the Mercedes Benz priority list back then. The heat and defrost work as they should and blow very hot air. The aluminum / rubber door sill kick plates are all in superb condition. There are only two notable flaws on the interior of this 450 SL -- 1. The middle portion of the dashboard does have a crack on the side closest to the windshield. This is a VERY common problem with this 107 chassis automobile. Several companies manufacture 'dash veneer' overlay panels that adhere to damaged original dashboard and cure this problem. 2. The wood panel that surrounds the gear shifter is aged and cracked. Again. a common problem that is easily rectified with a new panel. The rest of the wood panels and strips are glossy. and in excellent condition. Lift up the floor mat carpet panels and you will find ZERO rust or corrosion on the floor pan. And. if you know these cars. this is a major problem! The trunk carpeting is in good condition with a bit of fading. The spare tire and rim are intact with the original instruction tag. Again. there is ZERO rust underneath the carpet in the trunk floor area.

Regarding the mechanics and electronics of this 450 SL. Well. to be honest. it is one of the best factors about this car! It is a champ on the road! It is solid as a rock! The gentleman that owned this car for 33. 5 years maintained it on a level. beyond explanation. He was extra particular with it. and it shows. If something went wrong. it was immediately repaired by him. or his mechanic. There are NO leaks to be found. While not driving it. nbsp;she has been parked on an outdoor carpeted surface under my carport for the past month. NO FLUID DROPPINGS ANYWHERE! Very rare for this model of SL. The suspension is tight and has no creaks or rattles. The brakes and rotors are somewhat new. The steering is tight with no play in it. Also. there is no creaking or crunching going on when turning the wheel. The exhaust system was replaced sometime ago and sounds proper. This 4. 5 litre engine is fuel injected and fires right up with no problem. at all. The engine temperature maintains steady. exactly where it should. This car is powerful! I have put 1. 00 miles on her over the past few weeks. and have noticed ZERO oil consumption. The electronics on this SL seem to function properly. with no problems at all. But let's face it. 99. 00 miles on a car like this is super low mileage. ** I chose not to disturb the engine bay with toxic degreasers. etc. ** I will leave that up to the buyer. It is the ONLY part of this car that has not been detailed and polished.

Let's not forget one of the most amazing. and unbelievable. things about this car. Included with the sale of it is the ORIGINAL FACTORY WINDOW STICKER!!! This car listed for $37. 83. 00 in 1980. The ORIGINAL MERCEDES BENZ BUILD SHEET AND VIN SHEET are included. The ORIGINAL OWNER'S MANUAL AND BOOKS are included. as well. And. as mentioned above. the ORIGINAL BECKER RADIO / CASSETTE UNIT AND WIRE are included. The ORIGINAL MERCEDES BENZ STAMPED TOOLS are included. The ORIGINAL MERCEDES BENZ FIRST AID KIT (FULL OF THE ORIGINAL FIRST AID SUPPLIES (RIGHT DOWN TO THE SURGICAL SCISSORS) IN ITS ORIGINAL BOX is included and is  mounted in the rear deck of the car. An official HAYNES repair / diagram book for this model is also included in the sale. These items are invaluable to someone who has an appreciation for classic cars!

This 450 SL is so amazing in so many aspects. It looks good. it drives excellent. it is mostly original. it is intact and everything works as it should! It is very rare to find one with this combination of attributes. It is a well known fact with the 1972-1989 SL. Generally speaking. you have the low mileage 'show quality' examples. On the flip side. you have the high mileage 'rough' examples. And. as 107 chassis connisours know. the 1972 - Mid Eighties models are more desired than the final year models. The look is a bit more classic. the rims are more 'Old School Mercedes Like' and they have the 'Dallas Appeal'. I hate to say it. but this 450 SL is more comfortable and drives better than my 1989 560 SL? And. it has a better engine. Not as powerful. but more solid.
