Current customer rating: (757 votes ) based on
1971 Dodge Dart Demon 340 (LM29H1B273xxx) factory 340c. i. (H-code) numbers matching original engine and original 727 auto transmission. The Demon's factory options include. very rare A31 high performance axle package with 8 ¾ rear and 3. 91 posi gears. B51 factory power disc brakes. power steering. factory front end sway bar. factory Rallye dash. performance hood with twin hood scoops. tuff steering wheel. black 340 Demon side stripe(V6X) and black trunk stripe(V8X). Some added on items are the correct factory bucket seats with floor console. original AM/FM radio and original rallye wheels with BFG tires. The stunning high gloss GB5 Bright Blue metallic base/clear paint is the correct factory color. The Demon was restored from top to bottom several years ago and just now finished a fresh light restoration. All of the body numbers match on the radiator support. trunk stamp. VIN tag. and original fender tag. The Demon has a build date of 1-22-71. This is an absolutely beautiful car and one of the nicest factory 1971 #'s matching 340 Demons you will find with a complete restoration and very factory correct including some nice options. There were 7. 81 (LM29H1) 1971 340 Demons built and 4. 32 were automatics. The Dodge Demon was only produced for two years. in 1971 and 1972. therefore production numbers are very low. with few left that are actually numbers matching and restored factory original. I also have the factory vehicle stopping distance sheet when delivered new with the VIN # on the sheet and the owners manual with the clear plastic jacket. safety equipment paper. Chrysler customer care paper and even the plastic sleeve that goes on the sun visor for engine starting info.
Paint and body
The body is in excellent shape and the panels are very straight. The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 1200. 1500 and 2000 grit paper to achieve a high caliber ultra finish. This long process alone took over 40 hours and the finish shows it! The Demon's sheet metal is believed to be mostly original with only the quarters. outer wheel housing and driver's rocker panel changed. The trunk floor. trunk extensions. floor boards and frame rails are super clean and original. It was painted over ten years ago with base coat/clear coat and is in unbelievable condition… looks like it was just sprayed! There are NO paint blisters or bubbles and looks fantastic. There are only a few minor flaws. as there were a few small chips that were brushed touched. The trunk paint was just done and looks excellent! The underside of the trunk lid actually has the original factory B5 blue paint in very nice shape and even has 3 factory paint stamps on it! The driver's side quarter was repainted/blended-in recently. as there was a scratch by the wheel well lip. The previous owner had this professionally done; there is a very slight difference in the metallic. only seen in bright sunlight and is very minor and very hard to notice. The color match and finish is very good and looks excellent! The slight metallic flaw does not show in photos. in the evening or under florescent lights…. I like to be completely honest. The doors open and close excellent and even the door latches and strikers are cleaned and polished.
GLASS. CHROME AND TRIM
The glass is in very good condition with only a few very minor marks. The front windshield is newer and in very good shape. The original Chrysler side and rear glass is in very nice condition and the rear glass has a few minor scratches in the lower bottom corner (shown in photos). All windows operate as should. The front bumper is brand new and the rear bumper was replaced by the previous owner and in excellent condition. The window trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine.
INTERIOR
The interior was re-done with new Legendary seat covers. seat foam. seat backs. carpet. door panels. trunk divider. speaker shelf and dash cap. The factory rallye gauge cluster was professionally refinished and restored and looks awesome. All gauges work and operate correctly. There are Autometer water and temp gauges for accuracy. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams. dome light. tail lights. parking lights. turn signals. four-way flashers and license plate light. The factory AM/FM radio was sent out and restored with new electronics. The E-brake. defrosters. heater. fan. horn and dimmer switch work as should. The speedometer works excellent as well as odometer and tripometer.
DRIVE TRAIN
The strong running 340 makes excellent power and runs great. The 340 was rebuilt by the previous owner with a very mild close to stock cam. bored . 030 over with correct 10. 5 compression pistons. new lifters. original reconditioned heads. rods and crank. Also has newer water pump and timing chain and topped off with a factory 340 Thermo-Quad carb. The numbers matching 340 has a casting date of 9-25-70 and the ID Badge has the VIN# stamped on it. The motor casting # is 2780930-340-4. The original numbers matching rebuilt 727 transmission shifts beautifully through all gears and was fitted with a very mild Turbo Action Street torque converter. The 8 ¾ appears to also be original to the car and has the correct factory A31 (high performance axle package) package 3. 91 posi center section. There are 3 different factory paint stamps just on the differential. This excellent drive train combo has good performance. cools great and handles awesome in all conditions whether highway or city driving. This is a very tight and excellent running 340 Demon!
