SELLER REMARKS

Like the VW Beetle convertible. the timeless MGB is gradually creeping up in value as new hobbyists enter the market. With many of these lost to the crusher. it's becoming all the more rare to find a clean. nicely restored example like this bright red 1980 Mark II roadster. Don't wait. the time is NOW to put one of these in your garage.

It appears that this one has enjoyed just one repaint over the last three-and-a-half decades. and it was done the same way the elves at the MG factory would have done it themselves. The bright red finish is showing some patina (it appears that the car was originally white). but the car presents very well cruising down the road and would certainly make anyone proud to hit the local cruise night without a second thought. If you're a fan of 2-seat British sports cars. this MGB is exactly right: shiny. but not too perfect because this is a car you'll want to drive everywhere you go. Panel fit is about what you got back then. so it's decent but not perfect. yet it does nothing to dilute this little car's appeal. The big rubber bumpers are a love-it-or-hate-it proposition for MG fans. but the important thing is that they're in great shape. not badly scuffed or cracked. Add in a few accessories like the chrome luggage rack and you have one of the most iconic British roadsters to ever hit American shores.

Despite its diminutive exterior. it's easy for even 6-footers to get comfortable in an MGB. top up or top down. The bucket seats are clad in black vinyl with textured seating surfaces that keep them cool and comfortable on hot summer days. and the stuff just doesn't wear out. Beautiful white-on-black gauges are part of the British charm. as is the more recent JVC AM/FM/CD stereo just ahead of the wooden shifter knob. which powers a complement of Pioneer speakers. Unlike many of its ancestors. the 'B is pretty civilized. with good sound insulation. heat control. and a very finished feel. particularly from the nicely fitted black carpets. The great thing about the MGB is that you can throw the top back from the driver's seat. and the black canvas top appears almost new when you call it into service. The trunk is also surprisingly deep and even with a full-sized spare tire in there. it offers decent cargo capacity.

The roadster was only available with BMC's reliable and torque 1798cc inline-four which made 85 horsepower and a nice. round 100 pounds of torque. But with less than 2000 pounds of car to haul around. performance is entertaining. You'll quickly discover the joy of a British sports car isn't tire-shredding power. but the exceptional balance of power and cornering. with all the machinery working in harmony. A 4-speed manual shifts easily and you'll quickly master the heel-and-toe maneuvers so that you can savor the tenor exhaust note provided by the recent exhaust system. The engine bay shows lots of evidence of recent maintenance. including new fluids. a fresh fuel pump. and a new cooling fan up front. The handsome 5-spoke alloy wheels were recently restored at a cost of over $850. and they wear fresh 195/70/14 Michelin radials.

Lots of fun to drive. it's also nice to see that MGBs are finally getting the recognition they deserve. With receipts and fresh window insulation included. this is a bargain-priced MGB that's ready to enjoy. Call today!
