1958 Alfa Romeo Guilietta 750D Spider abnormale for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.1) based on 376 votes

It is with great regret that I am offering my 58 Alfa Giulietta 750 Spider for sale. because I am moving and losing my garage.  This car is a nice driver that provides a charming and spirited driving experience; a roadworthy 55 year old sports car with period upgrades and a patina reflecting her age and service.  It has upgrades to deliver veloce performance. hence the abnormal moniker.  She offers the good looks and handling advantages of the earlier short wheelbase 750 series chassis and the more robust. later 101 series engine coupled with a 5 speed transmission.

According to Alfa Romeo Archivio Storico. this chassis. serial Number AR 1495. 03708. was originally fitted with engine number 1315. 43430. built February 28. 1958 and delivered to Hoffman Motors in New York on April 10. 1958.   The original color was red with black interior. The car is currently fitted with a later 101 series engine. serial number AR00102. 27968. equipped with a centerline 1390cc piston kit. Weber DCOE carbs. original 750 series veloce headers. and 1750 euro cams. mated with a later model 5 speed transmission.   It is equipped with an electric fuel pump and an electronic ignition from Centerline. It also has a spin on oil filter adapter from Les Hurlock.  Hot compression test results are between 160 and 170 in all 4 cylinders. The engine does leave some oil drips on the garage floor. I believe mostly due to porosity in the cast aluminum oil pan. which could be removed and sealed.   When cold. the transmission requires some double clutching because of worn synchronizers.   The electrical. brakes. steering. and suspension are all original equipment and working properly. The guages all work; the odometer reads 36. xx miles. however the original mileage is unknown.  The odometer was operational when I received the car; it stopped working and I rebuilt it during which period the car was driven less than 500 miles.  The car is equipped with Pirelli Cinturato P3 155/55R15 tires and Borrani wheels. which have been refinished.   The spare tire and original jack equipment are with the car. as is the original owners manual and tool pouch. however the tools are missing from the kit.   The car is also equipped with the very rare and period correct Nardi wood rim steering wheel which integrates exactly with the Giulietta column. and both the horn and light flash signals work as intended.  In fact. even the turn signal switch operates as it was originally intended with the long return spring wrapping around the steering column.

Regarding the body. this car is straight and has suffered very little corrosion.  It has been garaged full time during the 12 years of my ownership. and only driven in sunny Michigan summer days. It spent a good part of its earlier life in the dry climate of North Dakota. where the prior owner did perform some body restoration 15-20 years ago. and it was sprayed with the more orange colored Alfa red from the Duetto era color palette. The jack points. trunk floor. nbsp;battery box. door skins. and seat anchors are all original.   It has had rockers replaced. and a small patch on the front passenger floor.   There have also been reinforcements on the front right subframe.  Beyond the typical scratches and dings. there is minor bubbling on the left rear wheel lip. the decklid edge. and the right front door that has not progressed beyond the current condition in the ten years I have owned the car.   The door fit is slightly imperfect on the front edge of front driver door. but the closing feel. efforts and sound are fine.   There was small bump damage on the front above the grille that has been bumped and preserved with primer.   The car is equipped with a Robbins canvas top. newer seat cushions and black leather seat covers with red piping. Notice too the period racing belt for the driver position.   It has Carrello European headlamps.   All trim pieces are complete. and the bumpers have been rechromed.   There is even a bonus Abarth badge on the left front fender.

The complete matching numbers original engine to this car. number 1315. 43430. is available in complete and assembled condition. but there has been no attempt to prepare it for running condition.   There is also an available fiberglass hardtop for a 750 spider which is in need of full restoration and which is missing mounting hardware. Because of the potential shipping complications. these items will be sold separately after the vehicle sale is completed and will be first offered for sale to the winning bidder for $1000 and $100. respectively.

This is a no reserve auction. so bid accordingly.
