1964 Rolls Royce Phantom V Touring Limousine RHD Body by James Young Fully & Freshly Restored

I am pleased to offer this magnificent and majestic 1964 Rolls Royce Phantom V Touring Limo - body by James Young. This right hand drive Rolls benefitted from an extensive mechanical and engine rebuild from marque expert E. F. (Butch) Murphy. The car also had a complete bare metal repaint job that took approx. one year and was painted its original Windsor Blue color. All trim was removed. refinished and reassembled. All the wood was also refinished. This is a car that any collector would be proud to own. It drives strong and is extremely reliable.

Mileage on the odometer shows 94. 00 +/- miles and mileage since restoration is only a few hundred "shake down" miles.

James Young only made 195 examples out of the 516 Phantom V's produced making this car extremely rare.

Serial # is 5VC17 and engine number is C8PV and delivery date was June of 1964. The body number was 9194.

More Details:

Engine work: Butch Murphy spent approx. one year going over the cars mechanicals. Owner paid approx. $95. 00 for the work done including rebuilding brakes. rubber seals replaced. engine and head work. carbs rebuilt. Whatever was needed to ensure the cars reliability was done. Compression is 140 +/- psi per cylinder.

Interior: front gray leather is in near perfect condition and rear cloth is in very good condition. All wood trim was refinished and is in excellent condition (cost of approx. $20. 00). Front and rear AC works great.

Exterior: bare metal repaint in original Windsor blue color. In additional. all brightwork was refinished by D & D Chrome.

According to my research:

James Young Rolls-Royce Phantom V Limousine

With the launch of the Phantom V. Rolls-Royce offered its clients a long wheelbase vehicle of the highest class. reserved not only for dignitaries. royalty and heads of state. but also for those successful in business and finance who were looking for an exceptional car providing convenience. incredible comfort and plenty of room. Although the first orders were placed by the royal court and dignitaries. the bulk of inquiries originated in industry or from private individuals.

The Phantom V was based on the Silver Cloud II. sharing its newly developed V8 engine and the four speed automatic gearbox based on the General Motors Hydramatic design. The chassis followed the Silver Cloud's layout. but was lengthened and strengthened considerably by massive reinforcements and front and rear track were of greater dimensions. A final drive of particularly low gear permitted unfussy progress at a speed only slightly above walking pace. This was provided for use during. for example. ceremonial occasions.

Vast motor cars built to be driven by chauffeurs and fitted with unique coachwork to the customer's specification were not in great demand by 1959. The Phantom V. therefore. was manufactured to fill a highly specialised niche. a niche nonetheless profitable for its smallness. The series achieved overall production of 516 examples between 1959 and 1968.

Park Ward. now fully owned by Rolls-Royce. made 156 bodies. In 1962. H. J. Mulliner and Park ward were merged by Rolls-Royce. forming Mulliner-Park Ward. A number of 152 bodies were built by this new entity. Prior to the merger. only eight Phantom Vs were made by H. J. Mulliner.

As a moderately successful independent company James Young maintained themselves with 195 bodies. some of these being finished as Sedanca de Villes or 2-door Coupe. Most of them were built as luxurious Limousines.

Valuation

According to the new 2014 Sport Car Market price guide. the 1964 Phantom V by James Young shows a value of $182. 00-$325. 00 with an investment grade of A.
