1927 STUDEBAKER BIG 6 PRESIDENTIAL

This is a original 1927 Studebaker Big 6 Presidential with suicide doors and all the original equipment. matching numbers and parts.

This car was purchased new in 1927 in California. The original owner drove it until 1942 when the starter went out. He parked it and was drafted into world war 2. He was killled in the war and so the car was stored by his family in Greenville. Califonia.

When I found the car it had a lot of surface rust . it was loaded with yellow jackets and had been tagged (see pics). I was pleasantly suprised to see the original 1941 license plates on it with the update for 42 and the update for 43 which was a tin tag white with a big red V on it indicating VICTORY in the war for 1943. Immediatly I started to think the car must have been driven at least until 43 not 42 or there would be no reason for the update. (see pics)

After getting it home I first replaced all four tires and tubes so I could move the car around next I removed the gas tank. gravity fed fuel delivery system and radiator. I sent them all out to have them cleaned. sealed. boiled and pressure tested. I removed the starter and generator and had them both bench tested and rebuilt like new. I removed all the glass from the vehicle (all pieces intacked). I removed the chrome headlight rings . hub caps and had them re-chromed/polished (see pics). I removed the bumpers and had them powder coated to match the car and removed the old wooden step boards with step plates.

Next. I soda basted the car down to bare metal (see pics) . primed it and painted it. including all door jams. fire wall ect. I cut new wood floor boards . stained . sealed and mounted them. I restored the original step plates and replaced the rubber inside them like new. (see pics) I restored the four door handles on the car like new (only one had some issues and didn't come out to my liking) but all are functional and operate.

Next I replaced the spark plugs. wires. points ect. removed the fan cleaned it and painted it. I felt lined the engine compartment. where the hood makes contactwith it (original was all rotted away see pics). I cleaned out all the fuel lines and pressure tested them. I removed all the lights front rear and restord them back to original clarity (see pics). Original tail light no cracks lights up STUDEBAKER STOP very hard to find in no cracked condition. I found on Ebay a original hood orderment that the car came from the factory with it was $290. 00.

So. whats left. the car came factory with a stromberg single barrel carburator still needs rebuild. all of the vehicles interior need to still be done. it needs a coil (6 volt system) and a fan belt. The back seat was not with the car when I got it and I never did locate one. The brakes are mechanical and original (so needs brake job or convert to disc) It has a purolator oil filtratoin system on it that was cleaned up but never flushed completely. Lastly the roof was made of wood and the floor. I have all the original wood support slats and cross members for the roof so someone can use them as a pattern to make a new one. Floor is easy.

THIS CAR IS COMPLETE even has original luggage carrier that mounts on floor boards outside the car . bought it to chop it and just couldnt do it.

Health changes make me UNABLE to continue and finish this car. Who ever gets her will have a beautiful piece of american history and art when she is done.

I am wondering if you can help me? I would like to find out where you had your wooden frame work done or by who? I also have a 1927 Big Six Commander which I am currently restoring. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
Henry
