1984 Mercedes-Benz

300TD Wagon

1984 Mercedes-Benz W123 300TD Estate Wagon.  Powered by Mercedes' very robust 3.0 liter OHC 5-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine paired with an automatic transmission.  Finished in a fantastic color combination of very rare Lapis Blue Metallic paint (932 H), over Palomino MB Tex interior.  (Lapis Blue was only offered on Mercedes cars for a short time during the early 1980s, specifically, model years 1980 to 1984).

Original equipment includes: 4-speed automatic transmission, power steering, cruise control, central locking system, climate control, tinted glass, electric windows, fully independent suspension, power assisted four wheel disc brakes, light alloy Bundt wheels, original Becker electronic AM/FM stereo radio with cassette player, automatic antenna with selective height adjustment, 2-speed windshield wipers with 5-second interval mist control, electrically heated rear window with windshield wiper and washer, fully adjustable front bucket seats, front center folding arm rest, folding rear seat divided 2/3L – 1/3R, electrically operated right outside mirror, halogen head lamps, halogen fog lamps, tachometer, luggage rack with chrome roof rails.  Additionally, this wagon is equipped with factory optional equipment including: sliding sun roof and folding rear facing third-row bench seat with three-point safety belts. Only two previous owners and just 185k miles on the odometer.

The motor sounds healthy with very little blow-by, and no leaks.  The turbo spools up nicely, delivering plenty of power.  On cold mornings, it tends to run a little rough for the first few minutes, but then smooths out once it has had a chance to warm up.  It is a bit louder than normal due to a moderate exhaust leak.  The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears.  The brakes have just been serviced receiving a new master cylinder and fresh fluid change.  The suspension and steering feel very stable.  This wagon has just received a fresh oil and filter change, and primary and secondary diesel filter replacements.

The inside is clean, without any odors.  All of the gauges are working correctly within the instrument cluster and no warning lights are illuminated.  The dashboard is free from any cracks.  Some of the plastic interior pieces are showing their age, which can only be expected.  The driver's electric window works correctly, but the others will require new motors/regulators, which is a common repair item.  The central locks must be manually operated and the left rear door lock is stuck in the locked position.  The climate control with defrost works properly, but the air conditioning is not very cold.  Hydraulics for the rear hatch are in good working order, but the front hood latch and springs will require replacement.  The rear power antenna is not connected, but I am happy to source and install a replacement.

The body is very clean as can be seen in the pictures, including the engine bay, door jams, and wheel wells, which are all rust-free.  There are some areas underneath the wagon where the rubberized undercoating is starting to peel, but otherwise there is no significant corrosion.  The original lapis blue metallic paint was recently resprayed.  The luggage guards on the roof are showing age and there is a nickel-sized opening in the rear where an auxiliary antenna had previously been mounted.  All four tires have plenty of tread, but there are some cracks in the walls from being in storage for several years.  Comes complete with owner manuals, booklets and original window sticker and dealer certification from when the wagon was first delivered as new.  Clean Delaware title and clear vehicle history with no accidents.  This is an iconic Mercedes W123 wagon finished in a rare and stunning color combination that is an absolute blast-from-the-past to cruise around in!
