The original owner held on to this beauty for more than 40 years and never used it as a daily driver which explains the low miles. During the late 1970's he decided it would look even better if it were a candy gold finish and had it repainted and undercoated for further protection.

When the second of only two owners purchased the car, he decided he wanted the car back to its original color. He commissioned master craftsmen to disassemble the car to the point of a rotisserie restoration. Immediately after the media blast, the technicians were ecstatic to see all the ORIGINAL metal perfectly intact. What they had discovered was probably the cleanest original third gen Charger on Earth. There was not so much as a parking lot door ding. Hence, it required ZERO metal repair of any kind!

Fun fact: This Charger has never lived outside NE Ohio and the second owner lived less than 60 miles from where the car was originally purchased!

Nearly every steering and suspension component is original. The rubber bushings were replaced along with one lower ball joint, but with the car's low mileage everything else was in excellent shape. It's suspended on its original torsion bars and leaf springs. The original Hemi K frame is up front while the original 3.54 geared Dana 60 is out back. The transmission was checked and detailed with proper stencils and paint daubs. The rotors were slightly turned and reassembled with rebuilt calipers and new pads. The floor pans were so clean that painting them body color seemed natural, and they really pop against the new date coded exhaust, new fuel tank and new metal brake and fuel lines-parts that any serious restoration would change out.

The engine compartment, trunk and jambs were finished before the body was reassembled. The panels went back on and fit like a glove-they do that when you have the originals! Many hours were spent block sanding the car to perfection before they were coated in Gold Metallic, a new color for 1971. It's super rare, with only three R/T's known to the '71 R/T registry, and it's the only Hemi powered example! Up front, the original grilles were detailed and reassembled into the rechromed original bumper above the original chin spoiler. Fresh decals went down on the hood and wrapped around the car's sides. The car's original glass was reinstalled with polished stainless trim. Sharp eyed Mopar enthusiasts will spot the 1970 Go Wing on the decklid-this was an early car and got a leftover piece. Period pictures show that this is the original one to the car! Out back, another rechromed bumper surrounds the R/T taillights above what are undoubtedly the coolest exhaust tips of the muscle car era. The original keys still turn the locks in the doors and trunk-they were cleaned and reused, too. The original "450" wheels are at all four corners, wrapped in their original tires...yes, the ones installed on the assembly line in the fall of 1970!

The interior is a total time capsule. You're looking at the car's original seats with their original upholstery and the original center console bolted down over the original carpet. That's the 100% original dash, the original door panels, the original steering wheel and shifter...literally the only component replaced was the headliner! Options here include the Tuff Wheel steering wheel, center console, tachometer, AM/FM stereo radio, pedal dress up, map light and the rarely seen Strato Vent system which used A/C vents for additional fresh air and heating.

Under the hood you'll find the original block with all of its completely original rotating assembly. It was taken apart and checked, and new rod and main bearings were installed simply for insurance. The cylinders were lightly honed before the original pistons and rods went back in. The heads were disassembled, checked, and reassembled with new valve stem seals. Fresh Hemi Orange was applied before the original black wrinkle finish valve covers went back on. The original 4742S and 4745S carburetors were washed down, checked, and have all new gaskets and seals-they're that clean! The original distributor is up top, the original alternator and power steering pump are up front and cooling is handled by the original 959 radiator. The engine wiring harness, battery cables, belts and hoses were replaced for reliability. The air cleaner was restored and mates perfectly with the Ramcharger hood above. There are only a handful of test miles on the car since it was completed, and this Hemi runs as strongly as it looks!
