Just 2. 00 (Two thousand) genuine miles. supported by M. O. T certificates and SORN paperwork. Totally and absolutely original retaining all of its factory applied panels. glass and paint.

Always garaged and maintained regardless of cost the car is presented in absolutely breathtaking original and almost as new condition.

We are listing the car behalf of its present owner and the seller - Allen. who has been a client of ours for a number of years.

Classic Mini  

Since the day Sir Alec Issigonis penned the now classic lines of what was to turn out to be the Mini it has become such a part of so many people's lives. From Celebrities and Royals to learner drivers alike. everyone loves a Mini.

Minicooper

John Cooper. Friend of AlecIssigonis. owner of the Cooper Car Company. designer and builder of rally cars saw the potential of the Mini for competition. Issigonis was initially reluctant to see the Mini in the role of a performance car. but after John Cooper appealed to BMC management. the two men collaborated to create the Mini Cooper. a nimble. economical and inexpensive car. The Austin Mini Cooper and Morris Mini Cooper debuted in 1961.

The Mini Cooper S earned acclaim with Monte Carlo Rally victories in 1964. 1965 and 1967

In 1971 the Cooper name was dropped and remained so for the next 20 years. When it returned the Cooper Sport version held a ‘top of the range' place until Mini production ceased in 2000.

The Mini Cooper has become an Icon and Worldwide British Legend and here is an opportunity. becoming less likely be repeated. to own one of the very. very best available.

X687 ROO

Although pre registered in the dealers name. Pendragon Viking Ltd. on the 31st October 2000 X687 ROO was acquired from their Rover franchise in Chelmsford on the 13/01/2001. According to the sales invoice present in the file the mileage at that time was just 10 (ten).

The owner. Allen. a long standing Mini enthusiast who owned the first of many Minis when he was just sixteen. never intended to use X687 ROO on a regular basis. From the offset it was always destined to be a collector's piece.

Over the years Allen has owned many Mini Cooper's including one of the very best. if not the best. recreations of a mid sixties MK1 Works Rally Cooper S in existence which he built himself from scratch and which we had the pleasure of selling on his behalf in 2012.

When production of the Mini ceased it was Allen's overwhelming desire to own and keep. in as new condition. one of the last Cooper Sports off the line.

Shortly after he acquired the car Allen transferred his cherished registration number to it. The Mini was then correctly dry stored along with other cars that formed a part of his exquisite small private collection.

As we have said Allen is a very meticulous man and this delightful Mini Cooper is an absolute credit to him. It has been kept in a damp free modern building under covers with correct heating and ventilation and never in direct sunlight. The car has been periodically taken out and run to warm. but never if it was raining. When we went to view it for the first time it was on the understanding that the car would most certainly not be taken outside if it was wet.

In 2010 Allen had to make an extremely hard decision. one that he thought that he would never have to make. He decided that in order to fund the final stages of his 1960's works recreation. it had already run into tens of thousands of pounds. he would sell his beloved Mini Cooper Sports.

We were proud to have bought the car off him and we in turn sold it to another Mini enthusiast and collector who was equally as meticulous as Allen.

We clearly remember X687 ROO being collected at that time. Two guys arrived in a brand new covered flatbed transporter lorry - they were wearing the same smart uniform. They lowered the flatbed and loaded the Mini on. We asked them for a business card as we would like to use this inspiring car transport company ourselves. Sorry they said we work directly for the buyer of the Mini this is his transporter we do not move cars for anyone else - just the cars in his collection. Oh we said. dead impressed!

X687 ROO went off to again be placed under cover - in de-humidified storage.      

As we have said it was a very hard decision for Allen to make to sell X687 ROO and it was one that he always deeply regretted.

When we sold the Works recreation Mk1 Rally Cooper S for him in the summer of  2012 we were not in the least bit surprised that he asked us to make contact with the buyer of X687 ROO and ask him if he would consider selling it back to Allen. Yes he would he said but at a price! At that point we put the two collectors in touch with each other to let them sort out a deal - which they did and X687 ROO ended back up (again via covered trailer) in Norfolk with Allen who was thankful that less that 100 miles had been covered since he last saw the Mini. He vowed that he would never again part with it.

The best laid plans and intentions with classic cars do sometimes go wrong for personal reasons rather than anything to do with the car. A year or so after getting X687 ROO back into the fold unforeseen personal circumstances have meant that once again Allen finds that he must. with deep regret. part with it once more.

Allen's cherished registration number. as we say. was transferred to X687 ROO shortly after acquiring the car the first time and it stayed with the car when he sold it. However he now would like to keep the number as his initials form part of it. Prior to the start of this listing the relevant paper work has been sent to the DVLA Swansea to put Allen's cherished registration number on retention. Swansea will issue the Mini with another age related (X) plate. This is almost always the original registration umber that was on the car from new - X687 ROO - which is why we have referred to it as that but until the paper work comes back from them (which should be a week or so after auction end) we are unable to say for sure that this will defiantly be the case.

Today then this outstanding Mini Cooper Sports has covered just 2004 miles from new. It has been MOT'ed almost every year. to provide written proof of the mileage. but for the last few years has been on SORN. however all of the certificates for the MOT's that it has had are present in the file.

This ultra low mileage Mini Cooper Sports is finished in Solar Red. with metallic Platinum Silver roof. wing mirrors. and bonnet stripes There are 13 inch sports alloy wheels. large body colour extended wheel arches. 2 driving lamps. 2 fog lamps. large bore chrome tailpipe finisher. Black leather seats with Nickel Silver inserts. sports accelerator pedal. polished alloy fascia. SRS driver airbag. high strength side impact beams in doors. electronic headlight levelling control. Magnolia instruments. chrome dial surrounds. dash board clock. glove box. remote activated anti-theft alarm with passive engine immobilizer. 1. 3i 1275cc 4 cylinder engine. transverse OHV with electronic twin-point fuel injection. and a 4 speed manual.

Everything on the car is standard and as fitted on the production line with the exception of the battery which has been replaced.

An Evolution bespoke breathable internal external car cover is included with the car.  

BODYWORK

WOW is everyone's reaction when they first see X687 ROO.

The car is rust free and has its original factory applied paint work which is unmarked with no dings. dents or blemishes except for a miniscule stone chip on the bonnet that has been touched in with a touch up brush.

X687 ROO has never received any paint rectification whatsoever and none is required.

Chrome work is in excellent condition with no dents to the bumpers or to the grille.  

It goes without saying that no welding has ever having been carried out and. of course. most certainly none is required.

The floors and underside of the car are truly exceptional and again remarkably rust free. even the inner wheel arches retain their factory applied finish and colour.

The door. boot and bonnet shuts are as new.

INTERIOR

The interior has. of course. seen very little use and would best be described “as new”. It even still has that new car smell.

The carpets have been covered with bespoke Cooper black mats which come with the car and the seats have been covered from new.

There is tinted glass and rear seat belts.

Mini original Radio/CD player with removable front. still with carry case.

Carpets. door cards. and cloth headlining all in excellent as new condition.

UNDER THE BONNET

Immaculate with original stickers still in place and no signs of any rust to either the underside of the bonnet or inner wings.

Many items and components still have that as new shine.

IN THE BOOT

Nothing has ever been carried in the boot and again it is as new.

Not even the smallest mark to the inner lid.

Mini badged unopened tool bag with jack wheel brace and locking wheel nut cover.

new spare wheel with original tyre.

The boot floor mat is original and unmarked.  

ON THE ROAD

The car starts on the button.

It is evident that this is an exceptionally low mileage well cared for vehicle. everything is still tight. it is as close to driving a new Mini Cooper Sports as you could ever hope to get.

The car has all its factory fitted tyres.

HISTORY FILE

1        copies of the V5c (logbook) that show 3 previous keepers. the supplying dealer. Allen and the last owner. The originals have been sent to Swansea. If the replacement new one is not back on collection of the car it will be forwarded.

2        Original logbook.

5        Service book with 2 stamps by the supplying dealer.

SUMMARY

It is 14 years since production of the classic Mini ceased. however. there are still a few original low mileage examples to be found but. as their popularity continues to grow. span >  they are getting harder to find and as such are highly sought after and are rising steadily in value.

X687 ROO ( if that is indeed what its registration number will return to) is exemplary in every way.

Never intended to be used but put away for the future it is as close to a new Mini as you are likely to ever find.

It is an exceptionally low mileage. outstanding example of one of the last ever this classic British icon. It presented in show condition and with absolutely minimal work could well be a concours contender.

It is the right colour combinations. has all its original paint and is totally unmolested.

This car will. of course. be of real interest to collectors. enthusiasts and investors. but it is also an extremely practical Classic Mini Cooper Sport for everyday use. So if you missed one when they were available new here is a rarely to be repeated opportunity that you should not miss for a  second time.

VALUE 

If you bought any ‘last of the line' car. even a Mini. as an investment you really did have to be quite brave. You will have had to be prepared to sit on your investment for a good while as. even the best future classics. will have dropped in price in their early years. However as any serious investor will tell you after the pain. given time. comes the joy and the gain. At 14 years old all the investment pain has now gone with Minis. The Cooper Sport's that have been correctly cared for and little used are now commanding values well in excess of their cost new in and they are only set to rise further in the future - as Allen found when he bought this one back.

Looking around we have found a few comparisons a 30. 00 mile car with a specialist dealer for £12. 95.

Another that has only delivery mileage for over £20k. although there is a school of thought that the market for delivery mileage cars is very limited because as soon as you use them a little they are no longer delivery mileage.

Others with just a few hundred miles on the clock for getting on for £20. 00

It is hard to imagine that any of the above cars can be in superior condition to X687 ROO. However Allen is a reasonable chap and. despite our advice to the contrary. has instructed us to set a reserve below the lowest of the above prices. We think that if it sells for just its reserve then someone will have been incredibly lucky and have got an absolute bargain. No to mention a sure fire investment opportunity - it's hard to see just how you could lose really!
