Description

1967 MG B GT

In light of ever increasing competition from Japanese automakers MG ad men devised a commercial where an MGB would be dropped from a plane at 2000 feet, parachute would open, and a stunt driver would parachute down next to it, and upon both safely landing, the stunt driver would get into the MG, turn the key and drive off, just in front of oncoming Datsun, Fiat, and Porsche with ad copy saying MG a jump ahead of the competition! It worked...

For consignment, all in cracking, (good!) condition we give you a 1967 MG B GT. Now sporting a vintage engine from 1977, earlier SU carbs, and a body style that is a full on hatchback and even has a rear bench seat for extra passengers, and looking snazzy and sharp, all straight car with British flair, bloody well right!

Exterior
From its low-slung bonnet, towards the very clean MG badged grille, and paired curved bumper with pushers, chrome bezel headlights, belt line chromed spear, a hatchback large window boot, this car is all straight and the Pale Primrose paint is just beautiful. Britework, and correct badging are pristine as well. Nicely placed rear view mirrors are atop the front fenders and window trimmings are all supporting excellent clear glass. On the back a vertical taillight is seen when the rear fender comes to an end. These flank the hatchback with a large rear glass and a classic MG MGB-GT badge. Multi spoke wire knockoff hubs in the center are showing nicely on all 4 corners.

Interior
A swing of the doors and the door panels, which are tight and straight, all in black vinyl with shiny handles and a mid-section trimming are screwed tightly to the inside of the doors. Inside bomber style low back tubbed buckets are wrapped in black vinyl with tuck and roll inserts, and smooth bolsters, along with pristine white piping. In the back a small straight back bench stretches from side to side and has the same pattern and material as the buckets. These chairs are floating in a very clean and like new black carpeting. Grabbing on to the wood rimmed steering wheel we can have a good look at the dash, where nice clean round gauges are neatly mounted into the vinyl dash. In the center of the dash are more pulls, toggles, and climate control round knobs. Above is another large MG badge where the radio would have been. On the hump is a small stalk wood topped shifter and the handbrake lever. Above under the hardtop is a tight white headliner. In back with a rise of the hatchback is some extra space covered with black carpeting. Posh all the way.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a circa 1977 1.8 liter 4-cylinder fed by earlier production dual SU HS4 carburetors. Attached to the back is a 4-speed manual transmission with electronically activated Laycock-De-Normanville overdrive, and on the rear is a 3.90 geared axle. All well restored here and all spit spot!

Undercarriage
Very sturdy with heavily sprayed rustproofing and black paint but no dirt or surface rust. Frame is solid and rust free. Noted are front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. Suspension comes in the form of an independent coil spring in the front and leaf springs for the rear. A stock style single exhaust snakes its way to the back to expel spent fossils.

Drive-Ability
I donned my driving hat, goggles, and scarf and off to the Classic Auto Mall test track I went. My cohort always lets me wheel the British cars as I have a soft spot for them....it takes me back to my high school and college days, but I digress... The car started easily with the twist of the key and off I went. The wind rushing through my hair, I felt as if I was touring the countryside outside of East Sussex. Great acceleration, bias free braking and wonderful handling. This MGB GT took everything I could throw at it on my drive and did it with perfect British charm and manners. Now, to find a way to sneak this car home without my wife finding out. Blimey!

A classic British sports hatchback, all looking very Prim-rosey, and one where you can hop in turn the key and be off for a tool with not a care in the world. This heated garage kept car was well maintained, and painstakingly restored to emulate the original as closely as possible without sacrificing any safety concerns. New tires, new front suspension, electronic distributor, plug wires, new starter and new battery along with now 2 speed wipers are all great assets to this sportscar. With that I'll say, "chip chip cheerio and all that rot!"
