At the 1956 GM Motorama, the Impala name was introduced on a sporty, Corvette-inspired five-seater. It featured a number of styling elements that would later appear on the new-for-1958 Chevrolet Impala, such as the side spear, reverse-slant C-pillar and wraparound front and rear glass. Following the success of the 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, introducing an entirely new car was a risky undertaking, but one most felt Chevrolet handled very well with the new full-size lineup. The Impala was the new top-of-the-line model at the Bowtie division, packing a respectable roster of standard equipment and a seemingly inexhaustible list of optional extras.

One of the most exciting new things from Chevrolet was the optional 348 CI V-8 engine, a powerhouse that Chevrolet advertised as having “a boundless kind of energy.” Chevrolet continued the dialogue, describing the “smooth, solid feel of Full Coil suspension and a super rigid body-frame design.” A one-year only body style, it sold extremely well and hinted at things to come from Chevrolet.

This 1958 Impala Convertible underwent an extensive restoration, emerging in Fathom Blue Metallic with the popular tri-tone interior. Powered by the optional 348 CI V-8 engine and automatic transmission, the Impala is already very well equipped, but it continues on with power steering, a power convertible top, dual sideview mirrors, an AM radio, dual exhaust system and hubcaps with spinners. Originally built in Los Angeles, California, the Impala rolls on wide whitewall tires and was treated to triple chrome plating during the restoration.

Under the hood, inside and out, the Impala looks ready for a photoshoot to appear in an advertisement. The dreamy blue exterior teases the imagination of carefree, whimsical drives to points unknown, with the white convertible top ready to seal out the elements when the sun dips below the horizon.

Cars in excellent condition runs and drives well.
