You're looking at a 1963 Amphicar 770. with clean WA title. that was totally frame off restored(although it has no true removable frame) in late 2007/early 2008. I knew the gentlemen that had owned it and had it rebuilt. has passed away shortly after the car was completed and it sat in climate controlled storage until roughly 6 months ago when I purchased it from his estate

The car was brought down to the bare metal. any rust or dents fixed. and given a full repaint in its original Beach Sand White. All the running gear was gone through. as well as the engine. and it features many new parts and also many original parts that were in good enough shape to be re-used. Almost everything worked from the day I pulled it out of storage: all the lighting. bilge pump. heater. wipers. cigarette lighter. hand throttle. choke. temp gauge. fuel gauge. dash indicator lights. clock. horn. etc.

Shortly after I owned the car and got it out of storage I towed it to my mechanic and had the car gone through before attempting to start it. The old fuel was drained. lines flushed. new fuel filter put on. few fuel pump(old was faulty). oil/filter change. inspection/testing of antifreeze. carb float adjusted. after that a new battery was installed and some ethanol-free gas…the engine started right up and ran absolutely perfect.

I also had the brakes inspected for rust/wear and all they needed was a light cleaning. the fluid was also changed. The transmission fluid level and condition was checked. both great. All 17 external zirk fittings were greased with waterproof grease. The right rear wheel bearing was found to be bad. that was also replaced. I also bought a new convertible top boot.

I noticed the speedometer didn't work from the first test drive. we suspected a frozen cable from the years of sitting. Well. I bought a new cable and it promptly snapped once the car got up to 50mph. The cable was brand new and properly installed. so the problem is in the speedometer itself. I suspect the speedometer problem is also responsible for the 39. 12 mile odometer reading. that would be extremely high mileage for any Amphicar let alone one that was not driven for the past 4-5 seasons. A new Speedometer is $255 from Gordon Imports.

Some other things on the car that aren't in perfect working order: The parking brake cable is frozen. The door panels are original(or they appear to be) and the cardboard has warped some. and the vinyl has some faded spots. The seats also have some wear and tear. although the bottom cushions look to have been redone more recently. The convertible top has 4 small tears(3 professionally repaired)…I unfortunately just put the 4th tear in it myself while putting the top down for pictures. I have taken pictures of the problem spots taken next to a standard size credit card. Also the title says 1964 but the build plate on the car says 1963 so I happen to trust that the build plate is correct.
