Triumph Stag – 1978 ‘S’ Reg - Tahiti blue

This is a very solid example of the Triumph Stag in a strong colour with desirable features: manual gearbox. overdrive. beige interior. sound structure and bodywork and the original Triumph V8 engine which benefits from just having had a bottom end rebuild.  

The car comes with a history file containing old tax discs and MoTs plus receipts for parts and labour and a British Motor Heritage certificate. The displayed mileage of 76000 is substantiated by these documents.  It is taxed to Feb this year and MoT'd to May.

The bodywork of this Stag is particularly good showing no rot in the usual places Structurally sound throughout. the floors. inner wings and chassis members are all good and external bodywork is in correct and original profile showing no signs of poor quality repairs in the past.  The paintwork is presentable. with room for improvement.

The hood opens and closes with ease and the frame is in very good condition showing only light signs of use. The hood cover is watertight and has no rips or holes. although the mohair is faded from the original black. The rear window is also in good condition.

When purchased. the original Triumph V8 showed low oil pressure and consequently a complete bottom end rebuild was undertaken including tuftriding the reground crank. fitting new timing chains and new tensioners to resolve the issue. The engine now runs a very healthy oil pressure. even at hot idle.

A new clutch was fitted while the engine was out of the car. and we undertook an overhaul. tune and balance of the carbs on recommissioning.

Not all Stags are good to drive. but this one is.  On the road the car pulls strongly and rides very well. Suspension and steering bushes are all solid and functioning correctly. The drivetrain is quiet and taught. and the manual gearbox and overdrive are correctly quick and responsive.

The car is also in good ‘unbodged' condition electrically with all systems working as they should with minimal aftermarket amendments.
