1958 MG Twin Cam one of the best

4. 57 miles since restored in 2000

The MG Twin Cam was a gigantic step up from the standard four cylinder MGA.   First of all and very importantly it knocked seven seconds off the zero to sixty time when you compared the twin cam to the standard four cylinder.   As one would expect with this type of acceleration. new brakes were needed and the Twin Cam instead of using drum brakes used four disk brakes.   In terms of appearance there are a few indicators on the body that say “Twin Cam” but most importantly are the knock off disk wheels.   These are similar to the type of wheels that can add an extra $100. 00 dollars worth of value to a Mercedes Gullwing versus the standard disk hubcap wheels.  

The production run for Twin Cams were from 1958 through 1960 and only 2. 11 were produced.    Top speed was also increased by approximately 15 mph as the Twin Cam roadster could knock on the door of 115 miles per hour.  

The original Twin Cam engines from the factory as time would go on most all would receive updates which would make them fully reliable and get rid of the quirks that the early MG Twin Cams had.  

Today it is very unusual and quite hard to find an original matching numbers Twin Cam engine MG like the one that you see before you.   Add to that the fact that this Twin Cam was restored by one of the most knowledgeable restorers to bring it very closely to its original production status plus the necessary adjustments. for dependability and improved efficiency that have been incorporated into this Twin Cam engine and its various running components.

For those in the know the Twin Cam engine is a very exotic upgrade with very few having the matching numbers and the correct restoration.   MG Twin Cam are truly for the sophisticated and exotic collector and the degree of pride of ownership is reflected in the highly increased value between a standard MG 4 cylinder and a MG Twin Cam.   The MG Twin Cam also came in a coupe but judging from the votes that come from the collectors wallets the MG Twin Cam roadsters always bring more then the coupes.   We feel that as most collectors do that the MG Twin Cam shows best in its original red although there were several colors available.
