1955 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible – No Reserve             Doesn't everyone love a “barn find”. As we are restorers of vintage and classic automobiles. we occasionally hear about a vintage or collectible car through – word of mouth. This is how we came to learn about this rare and wonderful 1955 Eldorado Convertible. In fact. she was ironically located only a few miles from our shop. Here is the amazing part. she has only 48. 13 miles and hasn't been on the road since 1972. In fact. she still wears the 1972 Illinois plates. Also. she is a ONE-owner car. She led an easy life. truly an amazing find. (Mileage confirmed by owner's son. who inherited the car).   Here are some details about this car –   Only 3. 50 Eldorado's were made in 1955. Ours is VIN# 5562116187.   1955 was the first year that the Eldorado used truly unique body panels (if you start with the 1954 model)  – differentiated by the rear quarter panels. which included the "scimitar" or "shark fin". a slim. rear-pointing blade. Recall that in 1954 the rear quarters were very bulbous and possessed wheel skirts.   She is painted in the original silver color (code 92) – making it all the more rare. Silver is the perfect color for this car. The interior is whit and black in color.   Recently. the exact same car (same color) sold at Gooding & Company. you can search youtube for the results and video of the car. Enter Gooding and Company. 1955 Eldorado.   The original dual carburation is in tact – as well as the “bat wing” air cleaner (hard to replace). The 331 cubic inch V8 produced an impressive 270hp. In contrast. we own a 1955 New Yorker Convertible. With its hemi engine and single carb. she produces 250hp. Apparently the horsepower war was shaping up back as far as 1955.   The signal seeking radio is there. with floor control. I cannot verify that it works as yet.   This car has a complete set of original Cadillac Sabre Wheels and they are in good shape also.   The original style (and huge) battery is there too. It's massive. But plan to replace it – it's old.   The original floor mats – specific to the Eldorado. are in place. front and rear.   She also has the PARADE BOOT – a rare and desirable option. The autronic (automatic dimming high beams) eye is in place also. She has pw. ps. power top and power brakes as well. Of course. she has an automatic transmission.   The chrome is pitted in some areas but is all there. The stainless is mostly there minus the rear quarter strips on the “scimitar”.   That should be an easy item to find.   The interior was replaced with vinyl (should be leather/fabric combination) at some point but is in good working condition.   The top is also in good condition and looks relatively new.   The body shows signs of a repaint – but then again. she is 58 years old. Expect to paint the car again. of course.   We have been able to get her running – but she can't be driven. The brakes need attention. etc. She'll need to be trailered. We have not moved the car on it's own power yet.   In terms of rust. there is virtually nothing more than the usual surface rust. There is no visible rust through. no holes in the floor. etc. that we can see.   The rockers are solid and may have been replaced with the last repaint. The front fenders do have several pinhole rust areas. But. luckily. it's the same fender used on ALL 1955 Cadillacs. Sourcing them should be easy (a donor 4 door sedan on Ebay is inexpensive. probably less expensive than the cost of the fenders alone).   She is very pretty in person. an impressive and large car. Well worth your consideration.   We do not currently have the bandwidth to restore this car anytime soon. So. we reluctantly offer it for sale. This is a no reserve auction above $22. 00. In so doing. we think that we'll achieve fair market value and recoup our investment. So. here is a chance to acquire an iconic 50's Cadillac Eldorado. She is rare and has incredibly low mileage – and is a one-owner car.   Due to it's age. this car is being sold as-is. with no warranty implied or expressed. We've made every effort to describe the car. We highly recommend inspections and encourage additional questions.  Ebay's email system is the best means of communication. We will respond to emails quickly. We require a $1. 00 paypal deposit within 48 hours of the close of the auction. The remaining balance is due within 7 days. no exceptions.   We report non-paying bidders and report them. Purchasing a car on Ebay is a legally binding contract. Please only bid on our car if you can immediately afford it. Cash. wire or certified funds are required. however. we hold the title on certified checks until it clears.
