1972 Datsun 510 4 Door - Straight, Solid and Clean Cali Car on the East Coast for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 800 votes

Up for sale is a 1972 Datsun 510 4 door sedan. The Body and Interior are stock.

The stock engine has been swapped for a Nissan/Datsun V6 (VG30) with 5 speed Transmission.

This car was originally from California. It was purchased new from Harbor Datsun in Harbor City. CA on Dec. 29. 1972 and resided in CA. with the original owner for 25 years.  It was sold to the 2nd owner and moved to Carson. Ca with 33. 00 original miles. He sold it one year later to its new owner in Mesa. Arizona. The car stayed in Arizona for 10 years during which time. he installed the VG30 V6 engine / 5 speed and other related swap stuff. In 2008. the car was sold to a Doctor in Virginia. The doctor only drove it around 800 miles in the first year he had it and then it sat in his heated garage for the next 4 years. Due to a relocation for the doctor. the car was reluctantly put up for sale and I became the lucky new owner.   I have several 510's in my collection and I have been an active member of the 510 community for over 25 years. I don't want to sell the car but I have too many and my other projects are being neglected so I need to thin the herd. This is a good thing for one of you as clean straight 510s are getting harder to find. especially on the East Coast.

The car still has only 41. 00 original miles on it. It is straight. clean and ready to enjoy. It starts right up and runs strong and is reliable. The V6 is such a nice power plant for these cars. It pulls great. The transmission shifts smoothly and the clutch works well. It does not have any major issues. It is not a show car but it is a nice driver.

 Body:

The Body is straight and clean. The car was repainted some years ago and the paint is ok. It shines and looks nice from 5 feet but there are a few chips here and there and there is a good bit of orange peel. nbsp;but no major issues. It would probably benefit from a color sanding and buffing. It is an ok paint job but not a show car. There is no rust or rot showing on the body. The floors. rocker panels. quarter panels. lower fenders. etc. are all solid. There are two areas where I did find some rust. One is in the trunk where the trunk floor meets the tail light panel. There are some small holes there where water must have sat and collected while the car was stored. Also an area where the front inner fender well and the boxed frame section meet.  I did not find any other rust issues on this car. The spare tire well is solid but there is a dent in it that looks like someone backed up onto something. All of the doors and hood and trunk line up nicely and the panel gaps look to be how they should. All of the glass is in nice condition and all of the windows work properly. The bumpers are straight and solid. The chrome is ok but somewhat faded in areas. Polishing would make them look much nicer.    All of the trim is in good shape. The door handles have some pitting on them and the trim around the tail lights has some pitting too. Still looks good but I am trying to point out everything.

 Interior:

The interior is Black in color and it is clean and in really nice condition. There is no fading and it is a deep dark rich color. The dashpad is uncracked and the door panels are uncut and very nice. The seats are orginal and in great shape. The driver's seat does show a little wear and has a split on one of the seams. The carpet has been replaced with an upgraded carpet set and is very nice too. The front seat belts have been upgraded to a set of retractable seat belts from a newer Nissan/Datsun car. The rears are original. The original steering wheel has been replaced with a Grant GT leather wheel with a “No Wheel No Steal” Locking hub for easy removal of the steering wheel. The stock steering wheel comes with the car too. The car includes a factory tachometer that has been recalibrated to work with the V6 engine. A Sony Stereo has been installed and has an iPod/aux. input too. There are speakers installed in custom front kick panels and speakers in the rear deck.

All of the door locks and the trunk lock and the ignition are keyed the same and operate properly with one key. The electrical system is operating properly. The wipers work well too.

Engine:

Engine is a VG30 V6 from a truck with 300ZX Z31 heads and a later Pathfinder Intake. 5 speed transmission is from a Z31 300ZX too.

Front struts/brakes have been upgraded to Datsun 280ZX setup. Rear brakes are stock and have been rebuilt. Brake system works well. A pair of T3 camber plates have been installed and the car was recently aligned. Wheels are Konig 16”.

Issues: The headlights have been replaced with H1/H4's but the high beams are not currently working. I have not looked at them to see why. The horn is not working and may be due to the horn button in the steering wheel. The rear speakers are not hooked up. All of the weatherstripping and the the door seals are original and are old and cracked and should be replaced. The heater box was removed when the V6 was installed. It is included with the car and can be reinstalled if you want to. I guess they don't need heat in Arizona. The suspension bushings are also original.

The car comes with the factory window sticker. owners manual and warranty book and the original purchase order from Harbor Datsun. Also included is a file folder with lots of original service records.

The car is located In Silver Spring. Maryland (Suburbs of Washington. DC) East Coast USA. I can help with shipping anywhere as long as the buyer pays for it.

Greetings- I am a rare Datsun 510 enthusiast who, like you, lives on the East coast (Raleigh, NC). I ran a 510 in national SCCA TSD rallies years ago and I am currently building a 1972 510 stage rally car. I assume you have a clean title for the car. If so, I would like make an appointment see and test drive your car. Please text/call me at 347-694-0800 to set a time. Looking forward to seeing and swapping 510 stories. Ira
