1978 Ford Escort Mk2 Escort Mexico Replica. Relisted with a lower reserve. I have owned this Escort for the last year. my original intention was to prepare her for motorsport but she is just too good and I cant bring myself to do it to her. A recent house move where I lost half my garage space means my toy box has to be reduced. She started life as a 1978 Ford Escort 1. 3 Popular. There are only 27k miles from new. After much searching I found her with a friend who sold her to me. she was previously owned by his relative whom he inherited her from. I am reliably told that she has never been driven in the rain or on a wet or salted road. I am also told that she has never been welded and having been over her in detail I am happy to say that the only welding I can find on the whole car is where the anti tramp brackets have been welded to the chassis rails and axle. She was Ziebarted from new. this seems to have done its job beautifully. She is professionally fitted with a 2. 0 Pinto which received a rebuild and fast road tune before fitting along with a type 9 5 speed gearbox on a World Cup cross member. The suspension is lowered and uprated all round. with single leaf rear springs and polybushes all round along with an anti trap bar on the rear end. A set of RS 4 spokes are fitted. Externally she wears her original paint along with a colour coded Mexico front bib spoiler. an RS boot lip spoiler and Mexico stripes. Internally she has been fitted with a pair of Recaro Fish Net front seats that have been professionally re trimmed using the original fabric from the original front seats to match the rear seat which I am told has never been sat on. the condition reflects this. All interior trim is original and in excellent condition. There has never been a radio fitted and therefore are no nasty speaker holes hacked into the car anywhere. An RS centre consul has been fitted along with an RS 3 spoke steering wheel. I have recently fitted new rear brake cylinders and shoes and will give her a service when she sells as she is now tucked up in the garage for winter. Fitted at the same time was a new battery. alternator and gear reduction starter motor. This is a truly remarkable condition unrestored car with a beautiful patina.
