1953 MG TD barn find with competition history

Sale price: £6,000.00 make an offer

Car location: northampton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

Seller's notes: This MG TD is an incredible find having been in secure, dry storage in America for 53 years. The car is pretty much complete but in need of restoration. It is structurally very sound and incredibly solid, representing the opportunity to return the car to concours condition or perhaps even back into racing trim. The chassis appears to be fully original and very solid. Interior and seats are in surprisingly good order though the hood is in poor condition but the frame is present as are the side screens. The car comes with chrome ‘King of the Road’ TD headlamps, the headlamp brackets have been re-chromed, as have the spare tire rack, the door hinges, the side panels for the fuel tank and some other parts, these are mostly now fitted to the car.

This MG TD is an incredible find having been in secure. dry storage in America for 53 years. The car is pretty much complete but in need of restoration.  It is structurally very sound and incredibly solid. representing the opportunity to return the car to concours condition or perhaps even back into racing trim.

The car is a '52/'53 MGTD and it shows signs of an interesting history and retains a participant dash plaque from the 1959 inaugural all MG races held at Watkins Glen. hosted by the MG Car Club Western NY Centre. see picture of the event programme.

The car number (VIN) shows as an EXL NA (Export Left hand drive. North American specification) car built May 2. 1952.  It could well have been registered in1953 as MG cars often took several months from build date to being shipped. pass through the distributor. and reach dealer showrooms.  All chassis and engine number plates are with the car and UK import duties are paid.

The chassis appears to be fully original with a few competition modifications including wire wheels. hubs etc.  Replacement bonnet top panels are also included.  Steering appears original and not modified and the T-series rear axle is fitted with wire wheel hubs and appears to be stock ‘width'. leading us to believe it is a TF wire wheel unit.

Interior and seats are in surprisingly good order though the hood is in poor condition but the frame is present as are the side screens.  The car comes with chrome ‘King of the Road' TD headlamps. the headlamp brackets have been re-chromed. as have the spare tire rack. the door hinges. the side panels for the fuel tank and some other parts. these are mostly now fitted to the car.
