Reluctantly I am selling my Austin Ambassador, It's practicality is great, but life changes and it's time to move on.The Ambassador is a rare modern classic as well as a very practical classic, with the hatch and huge load space. It's well recognised, and is welcome at classic and retro car events, it turns heads and get's attention on the road, in car-parks and outside pubs.I'll list some positive points first, and a few negatives later. This car has had the cylinder head rebuilt with hardened valve guides and seats so it will run well on modern fuel. The twin SU carburetors were rebuilt using genuine Burlen kits (£135), and each has a new vacuum chamber (£537)It's had all four hydragas displacers replaced with top quality re-engineered units from the UK's leading supplier (February this year £800). The hydragas system was also emptied, and refilled with fresh fluid)It has a good and tidy interior with good upholstery. (no boot carpet)Roof lining is very clean. It had the starter motor professionally rebuilt.Within the last four years it has a new thermostat, points (supplied) rotor arm, HT leads, spark-plugs and automatic advance and retard diaphragm. Two new front tyres (this year). The fuel tank was removed, purged, and repaired professionally, then a new fuel pump was fitted and all internal tank hoses replaced with E10 safe hose, as was the sender unit seal. The bonnet and hatch hydraulic struts are all new this year from SGS engineering.New water pump and temp sender 2 yrs ago.Recent clutch slave cylinder (3 mths ago).Low mileage for it's age, 62606 miles when the speedo' stopped working three weeks ago.The negatives. It's getting untidy around the rear arches (1 tin of matched spray-paint included in sale). The speedometer has stopped working despite a new cable being fitted. It needs an exhaust pipe. It HAS one that passed the MOT but  is not correct for the car. The dashboard has UV damage (cracking) but most cars of this age do suffer from this.It really would benefit from a full tune up, timing and snagging of the ignition system.  The CV bearings are noisy on corners (available from various suppliers).Main beam flash does not work.rear screen heater and rear wash/wipe does not function.I won't lie... It runs, I've been commuting 30 miles a day in it, but it needs a few bits sorting out. This is good car, but it's 37 years old.I haven't had any insurmountable problems with this car, it's covered 4000 miles this year, it traveled from Cornwall to Lincolnshire and back this summer (900 miles) with no problems. there is a very helpful and competent owners club, and spares come up for sale regularly. I have a lot of receipts for work done (recent and historical) so there's some history with the car. It's a very late model (anecdotally the last one sold, but sadly NOT the last one built).Viewing by appointment, the car is in Par, CORNWALL, 20 minutes from the A30 or A38 and also near a national Rail station. I am happy to liaise with independent vehicle inspectors and transport companies at this end for inspection or loading purposes. You could drive it away, but remember those CV bearings. I've been honest with the description because I wasn't quite told everything when I bought it and I know how that feels. I'm starting the bidding at £3500 which is fair, when you consider that similar vehicles for sale may still need the hydragas sorting out... This one has been done !Terms : Caveat Emptor, sale is final, hence inspection advised. Payment within 7 days of purchase, bank transfer or PayPal. Cash not accepted.Payment MUST be cleared in my account before collection. You are bidding to PURCHASE not to look.I do not haggle after the deal, so the final price it what you need to pay.  Non payers will be reported and perused for costs through Ebay.Be sure you have read and fully understood the description.* If you think your wife, husband, partner, bank manager etc will suddenly tell you 'no' the day after you bid... That's YOUR problem not mine... It's happened before. Talk to them FIRST please, it saves your time and mine.
