Vincent Hurricane - The FIRST ONE For A Customer. Triumph Spitfire or GT6 based for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 441 votes
This is a Vincent Hurricane. It is a glassfibre bodied sports car based on a Triumph Spitfire or GT6 chassis/running gear. This is the actual first car made for a customer and was used in sales brochures and for car tests at the time. (Paperwork included) The registration number remains original. It is similar to a Spitfire but of course the body does not suffer from rust! Some people reckon it is actually better looking than the Spit. This car has a 1969 Spitfire MkIII chassis and running gear but with a MkIV rear suspension. The Hurricane body was added in 1983. It is registered as a 1969 Vincent Hurricane thus car tax is free. It is taxed and MOT'd until October 2014. It starts easily. runs well and has recently been serviced. I bought this car over 3 years ago when it had been sitting in a barn for a few years. and have worked on it since then to bring it up to its current condition. However. with a change of circumstances (spending more time in the USA with family) it is sadly now time to let it go. You are encouraged to view it before buying. and it can be seen in New Milton. Hants. . on the South Coast between Southampton and Bournemouth. Train direct from London Waterloo to New Milton. 3 minutes walk from station. More information: Transmission The engine is a 2 litre 6 cylinder engine from a GT6. It has electronic ignition. I have done little to the engine since it runs well. One pushrod has been replaced and the twin SU carbs. have been fully refurbished and balanced. K&N air filters. It occasionally produces a little smoke on start-up. The gearbox (I think a GT6 one) works fine - it does not jump out of gear. No overdrive. The differential growls a bit. Yes the car drips a little oil. It has bolt-on wire wheels (no spinners or splines) which have been recently repainted in silver. Two of the tyres are new. Mechanics The brakes have had new seals in the four wheel cylinders. New ball joints and track rod ends have been fitted. The car is good mechanically. sporting a straight through exhaust with twin stainless steel rear silencers. Nice exhaust note! Twin air horns can more than adequately announce your presence. One difference from a Spit is the electric fuel pump which works well. There is an electric radiator fan. Body/paint inc engine bay The body. being glassfibre. does not rust! It is of a good quality. but there are a few areas where cracks are visible in the paint. Some are shown in the photos. The car is painted in British Racing Green which is in good condition apart from where there is cracking. This is not extensive and the overall visual impression is very good. with no "orange peeling" or poor paint surface. The exterior paint is of a professional finish. Under the bonnet the bulkhead has recently been repainted in BRG to match. and the engine itself is painted black. The front suspension is painted black. while the brake calipers are bright red (as are the rear drums). This shows up nicely through the wheel spokes. The front and side bonnet grills have been rechromed and sparkle! Hood This is black vinyl (or similar). It is in good condition and the rear windows are clear. There is also a black hood bag included. Waterproof? You must be joking! No. not completely. Chassis Solid. no problems visible. It has obviously been painted in the past and this remains in place. No sign of impact damage seen. Interior inc. boot When I bought the car the interior was ready for the trash! It is black. The seats are now newly refurbished MX5 with leather facing. The seats recline somewhat and adjust fore and aft. All interior carpet and vinyl has been replaced with new (except the dash). This includes door panels. all carpets and interior surfaces (except door tops). This was done by me so is not professional. but is pretty good though I say it myself! The work was done painstakingly and with much care. The wooden dashboard has been refurbished with burr walnut and varnished. Again it is not professional but looks good. The boot has also received much attention and is now lined with black carpet. with a spare wheel and battery cover to match. (Yes the battery is not under the bonnet. ) Electrics All gauges and dash electrics have been refurbished. with new push button switches and relays. This includes a starter button! Connections were cleaned and checked. The loom is in good condition. Driving and General The car starts. drives and stops as it should. It is surprisingly rattle and squeek free for a classic sports car. It is tremendous fun especially with the top down. which is possible all year round with the twin speed heater. There were only 50-60 Hurricanes made so rarity is a given. Spares however are no problem at all with all the resources of the Triumph marque. New Hurricane bodies can still be purchased from a company that bought the moulds. This particular car is memorable being the first "production" car.
