1976 VOLKSWAGEN TYPE 2 (T2) ”BAY WINDOW” SINGLE CAB PICKUP – The Volkswagen Type 2. known officially. depending on body type as the Transporter. Kombi and Microbus. and informally as the Bus (US) or Camper (UK). is a panel van introduced in 1950 by German automaker Volkswagen as its second car model – following and initially deriving from Volkswagen's first model. the Type 1 (Beetle). it was given the factory designation Type 2.

This particular example shows classic Volkswagen “air cooled” power at its absolute best. Having first Originated in Sweden where. like the UK all vehicles are right hand drive (RHD).  Having spent its life at a logging company before being imported to the UK in late 2009.

On arrival in the UK. over the course of 2 years it received one of THE most comprehensive restorations we have seen at Classicwise Associates where the restoration firm “left no stone unturned”.

Here is a breakdown of the restoration – Photographic evidence of all work undertaken is provided with the vehicle.

The vehicle was completely stripped and shot blasted to relieve it of ALL corrosion.  Any damaged or corroded panel was replaced with a full new section including: inner and outter sills. rear inner and outter wheel arches and a small section in the floor along with fitting a hatch in the rear of the pickup floor to aid access to the engine for servicing/repairs in the future. The rest of the vehicle was reported as being in “remarkable condition”.

Once all of the metalwork was completed the next job would be to complete the rust proofing. once again this was done to a great extent with the underside being coated in a layer of 2 pack colour paint followed by a layer of stone chip followed by another layer of 2 pack colour and then finished off with a covering of wax oil Schultz. The body was then coated in etch primer and prepared for paint.

Once the rolling shell was complete it was then time for the vehicle to be reassembled.  A new fuel tank. fuel lines were fitted first followed by a new gearbox and all new running gear. A new narrowed front beam which was narrowed by 4″ with height adjusters and fitted with type 2 detectives drop spindles. The intention was to lower the vehicle but to still retain comfort and drivability.  With that. all new ball joints. bearings etc were fitted and the front wheel aches were tubbed to allow 17″ Porsche fuchs wheels to be fitted.

It was then onto the rear of the vehicle. all brakes were replaced along with the servo. new brake lines. braided hoses new wheel bearings and shock absorbers to go with the rear “horse shoe” plates fitted for lowering. All new parts (front and rear) were colour coded to the vehicles colour.

Once the vehicle was back on its feet. all attention was taken to the engine. Firstly the 1600 singe port engine was sent to be line bored and have the case thrust faces machined. the crank was polished. The flywheel. new clutch. pressure plates. crank and front pulley were dynamically balanced. New big end and journal bearings replaced. then the reassembly took place with new barrels. pistons and rings and the cylinder heads were overhauled. Aset of adjustable pushrod tubes and scat rocker covers were added along with a heavy duty oil pump and cover were added. The engine was then fitted to the vehicle with a new electronic ignition. distributer. coil. HT leads. scat front pulley and an Alternator conversion was added. The engine was also fitted with a custom CSP twin silencer exhaust system.

Then the finally the attention was sent to the cab of the vehicle. all new gauges fitted along with a “sunpro” rev counter and electronic oil pressure readout. A fully customised leather interior was fitted including door cards. seats. headliner. bulkhead cards finishing the vehicle beautifully before a premium soundsystem and DVD player were fitted .

The vehicle. now completed and having only covered 1000 miles (the engine Is just worn in) since the restoration was completed and it was registered on the road in June 2012 is to be regarded as being of the highest calibre and is priced at a fraction of the price of building one.

Perfect for the modern Volkswagen enthusiast and ready to be enjoyed at £14495
