1936 Rolls Royce 25/30 Barker formal saloon.

Chassis number GUL50.
Registration: CNF1 (Does not go with car & was not original to it. )
Supplied new to the right Hon Lionel Berry of Cheshire.

A lovely restored car that has had much work done & money spent on it. The car was purchased by the late owner in 1990 & he immediately embarked upon an ambitious restoration schedule with a view to using it for his 2 daughters weddings which it did indeed provide transport for. The correspondence between the restorers & owner is voluminous with bills for £30K or so at prices of three decades ago.

Work included:

Full brake overhaul.
New King pins. bearings & bushes.
4 new tyres.
Full bare metal respray.
Restoration of upholstery inc headling & all soft fittings but excluding seat leather which was retained.
New Exhaust.
New Wiring.
New Semaphore indicators.
new (original style) fuel pumps.
New cast iron cylinder head. valves & pistons.
New windscreen.

Since restoration the car has seen little yearly use residing in a small collection of cars & being employed for high days & holidays whilst always garaged. The car is thus in lovely driving condition & needing little if anything doing to it.

In recent years the car has been expertly maintained by Marque Specialists Taylor's of Birdham near Chichester.

Coachwork is by Barker in the form of a four light body with division. The paintwork is excellent presenting very well in pale grey over black. The engine bay is neatly detailed as one would expect from a car that has undergone an extensive engine rebuild. Twin bakelite mushroom coils are in their appointed place as are the large tools. The front of the car sports two large trumpet horns & a central spot light.

The interior is delightful with the original leather seats having been retained. The brown leather is in good overall condition & is complimented by a new brown carpet set & replacement headlining. Wood work has also been refinished to a correct soft gloss patina. to the rear are walnut occasional tables & fold out foot rests. Vanity mirrors are located in the rear pillar alcoves.

The car has a wind up division in good working order. Unlike some division cars the front is spacious & a pleasant place to be suggesting the original owner to have been an occasional driver in addition to being chauffeured.

All in all a lovely car that has had a vast amount of money spent on it whilst pleasingly retaining & preserving originality where possible.
