This is a genuine 1968 UK matching numbers, 2 owner Triumph TR5 with overdrive and unleaded head conversion. The Heritage certificate indicates that the car was built in April 1968 and despatched to Carrs Limited in Croydon. It was painted in New White (code 19) with black interior and came with the optional extras of wire wheels and a heater.  The car retains its factory specification even the recorded key numbers match.

The first owner (still named on the V5) purchased the car in Aug 1968 and kept it for the next 20 years. The second owner purchased the car in December 1988 and kept it on the road until it was laid up in 2011 having completed a full and extensive restoration circa 1995. Since restoration it has completed approximately 5500 miles

In our ownership we have completed a comprehensive recommissioning exercise which included an engine out bare metal respray of the engine bay. The engine bay is now superbly detailed and largely original the only obvious change is the spin off oil filter and new alloy rocker cover.

We have recommissioned the entire braking system and where required replaced the brake lines with copper pipes.    The brakes and clutch are running with DOT5 fluid so there is no risk of paint contamination.

We have completed a full strip, paint and rebuild of the front suspension and replaced the suspension bushes and track rod ends etc

Full injection system overhaul, pipe replacement and balancing. Running on the reliable Bosch fuel pump.

The interior is factory original; the seats have been refurbished at some stage, the dash is unmarked, we have receipts for the professional refurbishment of all the clocks and it is still sporting the incredibly rare TR5 steering wheel. We have just fitted a new carpet set including the boot mat and new door cards with the correct white piping.  The seat belts are the original specification britax static units.

The hood has just been replaced in black mohair.

The body work and panel alignment is excellent. We have spent a considerable amount of time stripping the heavy underseal from the wheel wells and recoating in stone chip and painting in the ‘New White' body colour. In order to do this we removed the front wings. We can also report that no corrosion or repairs were found and the car retains its original structure.

Excellent brightwork.

Stainless steel exhaust.

The chassis is in excellent condition we have been unable to find any repairs.  There is no additional packing on the rear chassis rails.

We have spent in excess of £2000 in parts and approximately 350-man hours recommissioning his car

In addition to the new mohair hood and carpets we have purchased and installed new

Battery

Water pump

Overdrive solenoid

Badge set

Suspension bushing

Plugs and service items

Sill trim

Boot boards

Headlight chrome

Spare wheel board

Head lights

Door cards

Wheel spinners

Wing mirrors

The documented engine build, approximately 5500 miles ago, included a rebore to +0.020”, new pistons and rings.  Mains and big end crank regrind -0.010”. Balance of crank, flywheel, clutch cover, front pully, pistons and conrods.

The head was lightly skimmed and exhaust valve seats inserted to run on unleaded.

At the same time the gearbox was rebuilt and the radiator recored.

The car comes with a heritage certificate and a large amount of paper work and MOT certificates back to 1988. A huge amount has been spent over the years not only on restoration but on general upkeep

In summary this is an exceptional 2 owner unmolested car, definitely one for the purist.
