Technical specifications, photos and description:
This restored 1975 Jaguar XJ-C (Coupe) 5. 3 V12 is for sale at what I believe a reasonable reserve of under $20. 00. 00. It comes complete as a running car that has been used sparingly as a club car since the restoration was completed in 2006. It currently shows 11. 45 Km. The Speedo was reset during the restoration period. (Please note- The car is currently on club registration with the Jaguar Drivers Club and is not transferable). The coupe has always been kept in a dry garage and under a dust cover.
I am unable to say how many owners the coupe has had however it was delivered in the UK in 1975 and brought to Australia as a private import very early in its life. It is not fitted with its original engine and has no air conditioning. During the restoration no structural rust was found and what rust was found was replaced with new or good second hand panels.
I purchased the car in Bathurst in December 2002 and started a full bare metal. engine suspension gearbox out restoration. This took just over 3 years to complete and just in time for the 2006 Jaguar National Rally in Newcastle over Easter that year. The restoration included front and rear suspension overhaul and transmission rebuild. The engine was not touched and remains a good strong reliable unit. The coupe is fitted with twin electric fans which cuts down on engine fan noise and improves fuel economy. (Original fan and cowls available with the car).
The car is painted in Jaguar Phoenix Red (XK8 colour) and was a full professional respray including engine bay. boot and the inside. The vinyl roof was removed prior to painting (to enhance the looks of the pillarless lines). All the floor areas were treated with POR15 and the hard to get areas such as inside the sills were sprayed with XTROLL. This means. anywhere water can get has been rust treated with the best products available and should never be a problem in the future.
The leather was treated and coloured using Leatherique. New carpets were custom made for the cabin and boot area and have had over mats fitted ever since. The hood lining was also replaced onto the original hood lining board so there is no drumming as with cars re-lined straight to the roof. The dash was removed from an XJ6 and re lacquered (original burl dash is available with the car).
The car comes complete with a complete photo history of the restoration. receipt file and diary. It also has the jack and jack bag and full tool Kit. It also includes a genuine NOS owner's hand book with maintenance guide and Electronic Fuel Injection System Diagnostic Aid. It is also fitted with 5 Jaguar Chrome wheels and white wall tyres. The spare tyre is as new and has never been used on the road.
Besides regular club runs the coupe has been displayed at 2 Jaguar National Rally's and the State club display days at the All British Day for several years. It has also been displayed at the CMCC days at Eastern Creek. The coupe always receives many comments and looks from admirers (I think it's the colour combination).
The coupe has an oil leak at the power steering (something I have been meaning to fix for some time). There is also a small engine oil leak; well it is an old Jaguar after all. The reserve has been set with these items in mind. The coupe is 38 years old and it does have a couple of minor rattles at times but overall is a delight to drive. I suggest serious bidders come and have a look at the coupe before bidding.
There are a lot of spare parts that come with the coupe so if sold the new owner would need to bring a Ute or trailer to collect them if wanted.
Now to answer the question. why is the coupe for sale? Firstly it is with regret I am offering the coupe for sale as it has been a huge part of my life over the past 12 years and I know my son will not be too happy with the decision. However I have decided I would like to get into an XJ-S convertible.
