AMC Rambler 660 Classic 4 Door Sedan 1963 LHD American

So here we have a classic piece of Americana up for Auction

This car has had quite a unusual life. owned and operated by the US Embassy in Malawi as a staff car up till nov 68. the employee who was working at the embassy who was familiar with this vehicle. liked it so much that he bought it from them(letter dated 19 nov 68 detailing change of ownership). it then went on its travels again when the family and the car moved to Rhodesia in 1971.

All documents incl shipping/government licensing/garage bills are present incl the registration plates that it used. even down to the AA Rhodesia membership sticker that was displayed in the window!

Approx sept 1998 the family and car left Harare and the rambler was sent to Durban to be shipped back to Felixstow uk.

It was living in London up until a few year ago. then went north to Aberdeenshire until recently. so here is the opportunity for the next owner to enjoy a pretty unusual and rare car.

You can see that the seat covers have been tailor fitted and to the door cards. on inspection they appear to have been in place for a considerable period of time. the original seats and interior are in excellent condition. albeit the carpets are not original and could benefit from a renewal to finish the internals.

On the exterior. the paintwork has been done by hand! and to be fair unless your close up it does look pretty presentable but at  the least could  do with a  cut and polish. if your one for the shows or like your cars to be in top order then a paint job would be required at some stage.

The history that goes with this car is fantastic. details and documents follow the original id tags and 1st owner handbook right through to current date. hundreds of invoices and mostly original items purchased and shipped from the states.

There has been over 4000 dollars spent on the engine rebuild alone!

The engine is really sweet and quiet. ll engine work done professionally. the overall condition of the bodywork and underside is solid. clearly the car has benefitted of living in a warm climate. specially Africa for a good number of years.

It has the straight 6 cylinder 3ltr powerplant. I have available lots of spares incl a short block that will suit this model. enquire if there is anything your after. albeit I intend to sell the spares as a job lot. a discount price will apply if your willing to take the car and spares together. see last photo for a general idea. also windscreen/seal and others. nbsp;I must emphasise this is not included in this auction and available by separate negotiation only.

It is stated on the V5 that it has had 1 previous owner. but since it left the factory 50 yrs ago. count 3 owners. just to clear things up.  

It was recently driven 60 miles from its storage facility to my premises without issue. so in a nutshell its ready to go. maybe drive it home if you like.
