Do you like being stopped by complete strangers? Do you like to hear about peoples holidays to Bognor Regis in 1972? Do you like being invited to your local 'out of town McDonalds' on a Sunday morning? Do you like being filmed as you're driving or having your picture taken at a petrol station? If the answer to any of these questions is. yes. then this is the car for you! I have owned the car since 2011 when I started a restoration of the vehicle. It had been in a garage for 10 years or so (the last picture is of the vehicle as I bought it) and was in very good condition. The chassis is all good it having been sealed etc. there are two small welds. one on the drivers jacking point and the other to the front drivers side inner valance. Some of the panels were turning so I sourced three n/o/s doors (I could not get a drivers door) a n/o/s front drivers wing (the other was a fibre glass unit) and a n/o/s bonnet. When fitting the wing some rust was found on the hanging rail and that was also replaced. Some refurbished Ronal period alloys were sourced from Poland and fitted with some H rated tyres. The seats were well past it and so I fitted two n/o/s Recaro part leather front seats as fitted to an RS Escort. A period wood Mountney steering wheel complements the imitation wood interior of the 2000E. I have fitted a Momo gear shifter. The paint is in good order. not perfect. but highly presentable. The drivers door was repaired at the time of painting. there was some corrosion on the bottom front corner which was treated and stuff but as I suspected the paint has started to 'swell' in this area (its about the size of a 50p). As I said I could not get a drivers door. The mechanics. I fitted a stainless steel Fastflow exhaust system mated to a four branch manifold. The rear axle was fully polybushed. Koni shock absorbers were fitted along with 138lb springs (these springs lowered the car by 1 inch). The vehicle had new M16 calipers fitted. New twin 45 Weber carbs were fitted to a Burton stage three cylinder head with high lift Kent cam etc. A recon 205 block was sourced and all fitted. sadly the block was a mistake and didn't do the job! It was removed and a 2. 1 Jem block was fitted along with a balanced and lightened flywheel. The crank and stuff was also balanced. Please see Jem's web page for details of their work. The car has a Fuel King fuel meter. Facet electric fuel pump and a Bosch fast road electronic ignition system fitted. A Lux fast road clutch assembly was fitted into a Type 9 five speed box and fitted. The car has a Kenlow fan and a new thermostatic oil cooling system fitted. Period badges were sought and fitted. some rather rare and a bit expensive! The spots are period Oscars painted to complement the car. The upper pair are the uber rare Apollo Tourini carbon fibre type. The Webers required a modification to the heater box and a custom made heater radiator was made. New ancillaries were also fitted. I have done everything I can think of to keep the engine running cool. including a lower temp thermostat. In winter this causes the engine not to get too hot. I have sourced a period radiator grill cover to resolve this winter issue. having said that it does not go out much in winter anyway. I just thought that I would mention it. The cylinder head is made to accept unleaded fuel and was put together (Cam shaft etc. ) by Burton's staff. I have not undertaken any of this work myself. It has all been done by professionals and there is a history file dating back to the early 80's. All the bits I have bought have come from Burton's. Jem or other reputable traders. Kindly note that this is a 1970's car and does not drive like a modern car. no power steering. no tech. It accelerates. the Webers frighten sheep. it stops! Why am I selling? Well I have no garage and the car deserves one. I hate seeing it covered in snow etc. I have offered it for sale before but I keep stopping myself but I must see sense as my investment deserves better. The asking price in no way reflects the cost of what has been done (sadly) but should you have any questions then please do ask. Payment. I would prefer cash on collection or a bankers draft which must clear accounts before the vehicle is released. After declaring the alterations to the vehicle I can still insure this vehicle fully comp for £110 per year (limited mileage). I will undertake a test drive but I'll do the driving :-) Best offers can also be accepted. Lastly. I decided to see what an RS Cortina might have looked like should Ford have made one hence the non-standard looking 2000E.
