Genuine 1971 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400

American Car Magazine feature car September 2012 (copy of magazine with history file)

Pontiac Owners Club Valuation £25k

MOT till August 2014. Free Road Tax

This car has been meticulously looked after and is always kept in a warm. dry garage.   She drives brilliantly and has been a joy to own. however I am restoring a ‘55 Chevy which means she now needs a new home

This car has been a California car most of its life.   She was brought over to the UK in 2004 as a virtually rust free example and has been subject to a complete restoration by the 1st owner to a fantastic standard and is still in stunning condition (restoration photos included with car)

The second owner spent a huge amount of time and money to source as many original parts as possible for the car to further return her to as close to factory performance stock as possible.   This included a trip to the USA in 2011 to source many of the original parts that had gone missing over the years

During its time with the 2nd owner the car received the following

The strong 400 cubic inch (6. 6 litre) engine was fitted with 1970 GM number 13. 72cc big valve high compression cylinder heads fitted. 1971 GM cast inlet manifold and early GM performance cast exhaust manifolds replace the tube headers fitted by the 1st owner.   The Rochester Quadrajet carb was rebuilt. rejetted and set up by AutoPontiac of Hounslow to work well in conjunction with the high compression heads.   The air cleaner was restored to mint condition. all bracketry and pulleys were sand blasted and powder coated and a new viscous fan fitted.   Steering and suspension were also set up by AutoPontiac to run negative camber so she sits and handles beautifully.   A new HEI cap and rotor were fitted.   Power steering hoses were renewed and only genuine AC Delco parts were used for servicing.   Kendal 20/50 Liquid Titanium oil is also used

The engine was also painted in the correct GM blue for the year of the car and a new alternator was fitted late 2011.   Head. inlet and exhaust gaskets were all changed in 2012 when the number 13 heads and manifolds were fitted and fel-pro gaskets were used.

The gearbox is a TH400 and had new valve body. /span> governor and modulator fitted together with new kickdown solenoid and switch.   Exhaust system is a Flowmaster 2. ½” stock set up with correct transverse muffler fitted in front of the axle and sounds incredible.

Axle is a Posi unit fitted with new pinion and bearing seals.   Leaf spring pads and bushes. U and T bolts were all new as are the front and rear sway bars.   New brake proportioning valve under the servo together with new pads discs and shoes were fitted in 2012

Rear lights and chrome tail lamp bezels were renewed together with door. boot and glovebox locks. door rubbers. Pontiac grill badge. chrome vertical panel mouldings. roof gutters. engine bay decal notices. GM door badges. jacking info sticker in boot and Ram Air decals on hood.   A custom black bird on the nose was made by Stencils and Stripes in Illinois.   The black stripe across the car is vinl and can be removed if so desired

Sony MP3. SB. CD. Bluetooth remote head unit was fitted in 2011 with 6x9's at the rear and 2x4 mids hidden up front under the dash along with tweeters running through crossovers and has all been tastefully fitted

Wheels are 15” honeycombs with chrome trim rings and the tyres are 255/60/15 General Grabbers which are still like new

The dash has been changed for the Trans-Am machine finish type (original wood style comes with car).   All clocks work (speedo 160mph. rev counter 6000rpm. oil. water temp. fuel. volts. time).   Everything illuminates as all bulbs have been renewed and the dimmer works.   Dash pad is immaculate. carpets and headliner have been renewed by 1st owner and are still like new.   The interior is great with the exception of one part of the driver's seat base where the seam has come apart and needs restitching.   Rear shelf has been retrimmed in black vinyl.   Rear ashtrays. rear lap belts and Pontiac floor mats also fitted

As you can see the 2nd owner really went to town on what was an already stunning car!

The front and rear spats and spoiler can be removed if you are a purist but I prefer them on

There is a huge history file on the car and inspection is welcome.   I am happy to put her up on axle stands so you can inspect her all over which is what both I and the 2nd owner did. Neither of us could fault her!

I've driven 1700 miles in the last 12 months and she has been a peach of a car – I will be sad to see her go

If you know your Pontiacs you'll know how rare a stunning Bullnose is and I have to agree with the last owner – she is probably the nicest Formula 400 in the country

Any questions please feel free to call me on 07901 595550 and I'll be happy to speak to you.   Viewing can be arranged evenings or at weekend

Please – no time wasters. dreamers. test pilots or scammers.   Serious enquiries only – all others will be ignored.

I know it's not the best time of year to sell a car but no stupidly low offers please

No part exchanges.   Overseas buyers welcome but shipping is down to you and the car doesn't leave my hands till I have cleared funds

 Thanks for looking

Gary
