1973 Triumph TR6

With just I owner for the past 28 years and the subject of a fully documented body-off rebuild in 1992. this fabulous TR6 in Emerald Green on painted wire wheels ticks all the boxes. With just 17. 00 miles covered since. it has mellowed into the car seen here with the gentle patina associated with an older restoration. Benefitting from both good soft-top and rare hard-top (available by seperate negotiation). this really is classic British roadster for all seasons.

Karmann put their signature firmly on what was essentially a redesigned TR5 with “squared-off” front and rear ends to create the TR6. Still the same recipe of a 2498 cc 6-cylinder upfront with the benefit of new seats inside and a front anti-roll bar. Home-market cars produced 150 BHP with Lucas fuel injection whilst the American market saw twin Stromberg carburettors and just 104 BHP. Produced from 1969 to 1976. less than 10% of all cars built remained in the UK with over 86. 00 being exported.

Our car was registered on 1st August 1973 and whilst early history is a little scarce. the paper-trail picks up significantly from 1985 after it's acquisition by a Triumph enthusiast in Hollywood. Birmingham. Indeed this very gentleman retained the car until just last year and remains the registered keeper on the log-book. From the mid-1980`s the car was maintained by Peter Cox Sports Cars of Birmingham with a local specialist Archers Garage of Pope Street taking over the responsibility from 1990. In August 1992. a full chassis-off rebuild was commenced by Archers who took full 12-months to complete at a cost exceeding £15. 00. We have receipts and over 50 photographs documenting the work together with a Club Valuation undertaken in August 1993 confirming the quality of the restoration (“Condition and alignment of panels…v. v. good”). Mileage at this time was a recorded 28. 34. Mechanically. the car had been rebuilt some 2 years previously and the engine had covered around 15. 00 miles to this date. This is referred to in the Club Valuation but sadly not documented. However. in August 1996. Archers Garage were asked to investigate a blown head-gasket and concluded replacing main bearings. big-end bearings. cam followers. valve seats and sump gasket. The engine was consequently re-assembled and tested. Mileage at this point was 39. 03. Over the next 2 years. Archers saw the car for regular servicing and maintenance. Other notable work included a new starter motor. water pump. rear shock absorbers. shocker links and suspension bushes. At 43. 67 miles the paper trail goes a little cold and from what we have been told. the car was put away into storage with the last MOT Certificate being dated July 1999.

Some 13 years later (2012). the car emerged once more and was gently re-commissioned and serviced. Today the car still presents very nicely. a testament to the thoroughness and quality of the restoration undertaken. Excellent panel-fit compliments virtually blemish-free paintwork. whilst seats. carpets and dash are all very good with just light wear commensurate with age and enjoyment. Mechanically. the in-line 6 cylinder is very sweet and responsive with nice gear change. good brakes and predictable handing.

The TR6 comes with extensive restoration and service history (1985-2000). lots of old MOT Certificates. a fresh MOT to June 2014. an excellent soft-top and rare cream-coloured steel hard-top.

A very pretty car with great history.
