Volvo 240 GLT manual estate 1987

My storage unit is soon to be redeveloped, so regrettably I am in the process of selling the last of the car collection. The pride of my Volvo 240s is this striking dark grey metallic manual 136hp 1987 240 GLT. The previous owner purchased the car in 2015, but after failing its MOT in the same year the car remained stored and unused for six years until selling on to myself in early 2021. 

Since purchasing the car this year, I have spent thousands having a Volvo specialist fully recommission her including, among other works and materials; new tyres; new Volvo cambelt and tensioner, new battery, new sender and Bosch in-line and in-tank fuel pumps, new Bosch plugs, distributor, rotor and leads, new Castrol synthetic engine and transmission oil and filters, new window scraper seals, new wipers, new air and fuel filters, new suspension bushes, new brake pads, new heavy duty rear springs, new exhaust section, and a new Sachs clutch. I also had the underside of the car treated and wax oiled, despite the car showing no signs of corrosion.

As a result, in late June this year, the car passed its MOT with absolutely no advisories. The tester said he could not identify any corrosion of note, including to the sills or bodywork, which is very good and straight and, except for some very minor lacquer fade on the roof, the paintwork is superb. To further enhance its looks I added clear lens blinkers, period chrome roof bars and Torslanda alloys. Having had four Volvo 240s, this now gets by far the greatest attention and admiration from passers by.   

The interior, including the period beige velour seats, vinyl, rubber and fabrics, are in similarly good condition; and most of the electrics, including the heated driver's seat; PAS; electric windows and locks, heater blower etc, function as they should. The only niggles I haven't addressed are a blown backlight bulb in the instrument panel, six metal disc fixings in the headliner where the roof bars have been secured, and the antenna for the original radio, which therefore operates but does not tune. 

I also haven't got around to fixing the odometer, which ceased to work in 2015 at 126K miles. However, the MOT history confirms that the car has only been driven since then by myself for approximately 2K miles, so I estimate the true current reading to be around 128K miles. Moreover, the engine shows no signs of wear, pulling strongly, with zero oil use, and with an excellent measured cylinder compression of 190-195psi (still factory compression!) across all four cylinders. 

Whether as a collector's or a versatile and long-useable, soon to be tax exempt, modern classic, this car represents excellent and appreciating value for money and wants for little but a loving new owner. Given any restrictions on travel, transport can be arranged for around a pound per mile, but I would recommend visiting, if it is possible, to satisfy yourself of what must be one of the best, quickest and most competitively priced and attractive 240s nationally.
